Q2: How certain are you about your ancestry? If you traced your ancestry, how similar were the results to what you previously thought? #CultureTrav

A2: Very certain. I was born and raised in The Netherlands to a Dutch dad and a Polish mom, and the ancestry "results" confirm this. #CultureTrav

A2: Pretty certain. Ancestry results confirmed research results (based on surname origins as well as census records). #CultureTrav

replying to @brianmayroam @brianmayroam A2. Mine was as I expected although I found tons of cousins, etc. that I didn't know. I have a pretty big family :) #CultureTrav

A2: I knew I was Swedish and Norwegian, but thanks to the help of a stranger-circa-distant-relative also on the site, I was able to learn exactly what town my ancestor came from, foods, traditions, clothes....it was unreal! #culturetrav

A2: Tracing ancestry on my mom's side is much easier as they are from Cape Town and both her grandparents parents were immigrants. #culturetrav

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A2) I'm pretty sure, both my parents sides kept written family histories. #CultureTrav

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A2 the results confirmed what I already thought for the most part #CultureTrav

A2. Pretty certain, but there might be some surprises in there if do the DNA test. #CultureTrav

A2. I'd like to do some more digging to check the info my parents found. Apparently my great-great grandmother was Jewish and moved over to the UK from somewhere else in Europe, but we're not sure how much is true and where she came from #culturetrav

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A2: Other than my great-grandfather having changed his last name, everything matched up. We really only knew we were from Slovakia, so the results only gave us more detail. #CultureTrav

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A2 Quite certain. My Dad and maternal uncle have DNA tested, so my parents are confirmed. As far as ethnicity results go, all testing companies are a work in progress. Mine do match though. #Culturetrav

#CultureTrav A2: we've got back to the late 1700s. Mainly Scottish with a hefty dose of Irish.
Given my real dad is also of Irish origin, basically I'm a Celt. Heh.

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A2: In terms of the genetic testing I haven’t a clue because I haven’t done one yet. I should have some Irish in me as my grandfather’s surname was O’ Reilly and anything with O’ is Irish. I know my mother’s maternal grandfather was English and moved here to Ireland #CultureTrav

@brianmayroam A2: I was surprised at how little Irish I am considering my red hair and fair complexion. I’m just as much French, Swedish and German as I am Irish.

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A2 I was disappointed with @23andMe because they do not target the right areas. For instance they list French/German and English/Irish percents. Not very helpful. #travel #CultureTrav

A2. We were told we were Scottish, English and Welsh with a touch of United Empire Loyalist (and my uncle thought Spanish @ 1600) and DNA confirmed UEL - Pennsylvania Dutch and a smidge of Hispanic. #CultureTrav

Sorry, side-note (I can't help it). A2) Half-German. Half-English.

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A2 Anyone who says they're 100% certain of their ancestry is lying to you or deluding themselves. My research is as good as I can get it so far with the tools, time, and money available to me, and the accessible extant records & available DNA tests. #CultureTrav

A2 I only know my ancestry back a few generations. Honestly, I don't really care about finding out anything more. #culturetrav

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A2. I always estimated that I am 75% Irish and 25% German. My last name is Bavarian. But my dad’s 23andme came back nearly 100% Irish. 🙀🍀 #CultureTrav
