replying to @Turtlestravel @Turtlestravel @Nicolette_O Borders are arbitrary, flexible, often make no sense, and essentially meaningless in the long term. Just that ppl have a strong fetish for them ... #CultureTrav
A1) I have not, but I do come from a long line of beer distributors (shocking, I know...) 🍻 #culturetrav

@brianmayroam A3: Not yet, but I do want to get there, starting with the Portland, Maine area. Several generations of Bryant’s there, and is where my genealogy runs cold.

replying to @The_ChrisBryant @The_ChrisBryant @brianmayroam Ooh! That's interesting, Chris! What did the results say?! #CultureTrav

I need to do this -- but all my grandparents were born in Eastern Europe #CultureTrav https://t.co/uucfQP6MBM

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O Yes, but if I can provide a suggestion: writing things down immediately is important. Details are often forgotten as ppl get older. Also, I now regret not recording my gran before her memory began to get jumbled. At 97, hearing the voice of the storyteller is golden. #culturetrav
replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A2 I was disappointed with @23andMe because they do not target the right areas. For instance they list French/German and English/Irish percents. Not very helpful. #travel #CultureTrav
replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A4 apparently I’m around 7% French 🇫🇷 never thought that #culturetrav
replying to @VoyagerVicki @VoyagerVicki Wow! I love that so much, Vicki! So cool that you went back to that tiny town AND you have a genealogy book! #CultureTrav

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O Ethnicity results as part of a genetic genealogy test are not reliable. In the best circumstances they only show the ancestors that you got DNA from, & they are always reliant on the analysis of the scientists at each company & the data they have access to. #CultureTrav
RT @chrisncharlies: A3. Most of my ancesters seem to be from the UK, except a great-great grandmother from Europe somewhere. I may even hav…
A3: The paperwork may not say it but my soul is Italian, so I've been all over exploring that corner. #culturetrav
replying to @chrisncharlies @chrisncharlies I love those personal history stories you're sharing! Fascinating! #CultureTrav
RT @RTWBarefoot: @bigfatheadz @Nicolette_O Awesome. It's where my family were from the early 1800s until *cough* 1994 too! #culturetrav
replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A3) Not yet but I'd like to, especially Norway where a National Park is named after one of my family members. #CultureTrav
replying to @VoyagerVicki @VoyagerVicki @Nicolette_O That's great. I didn't start until I was well into adulthood. #culturetrav
replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A4. Most surprising was finding a photo of my great grandfather in someone else's tree and thinking it looked exactly like my 1st cousin. The resemblance was uncanny! #CultureTrav
replying to @RyanTravelsEats @RyanTravelsEats @DanaHFreeman @Nicolette_O @brianmayroam Happened a lot with names too, as ppl couldn't often write in the past. So names changed over time. #CultureTrav

A3 I love the idea of ancestry travel. I've visited and done research in the Alsace region of France and also seen family in Scotland, Ireland, England and Australia. #culturetrav
Also HIIIIII! Popping in for just 1 question this week...gotta get prepped for the Great American Beer Festival in Denver tomorrow! #culturetrav
replying to @CaitlinKellyNYC @CaitlinKellyNYC A while back my sister was talking about transferring my grandma's recipes to a new notebook and I was like, okay, that's legit, I want the old notebook that's full of stains and super old. #culturetrav
replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A1. We have a photo from Kinlochrannic (so?) in Scotland from @ 1870 and letters back @ 1830. My oldest bro did the ancestry DNA thing and confirmed all stories we’d heard were true. 😀 He could have saved $$ and just believed 🤣🤣🤣 #CultureTrav
replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A4: terrible generalization — and after five visits to Ireland — they seem to enjoy my 3 favorite activities: lively conversation, storytelling and a stiff drink #culturetrav

Finding out that I could have Jewish blood was a surprise. Although I don't really believe in religions being passed through blood! My mum and nan weren't Jewish, and I'm not sure whether my great-grandmother was. I think four generations is pretty far removed! #culturetrav

replying to @RyanTravelsEats @RyanTravelsEats @Nicolette_O @brianmayroam Surnames have been being changed since they began being used for all sorts of reasons, and only quite recently did name spelling become fixed in Western countries.
