A3: Travelers who bother to learn and speak a few words in every country they visit signal they are interested in the culture. Pronouncing & learning foreign words (no matter how difficult) tunes your ear & educates your mouth so you listen & practice. #CultureTrav #language
A3: I've found that depending on the language(s), I can pick up similarities in sound/words. And, while I don't speak (much) German, I've also found there are cultural similarities to the Netherlands or Belgium, as neighboring countries. #CultureTrav

A3: With exceptions, many of our languages borrow words and phrases from each other, so I think that's one way we're bound to different cultures. Et tu? @Nicolette_O

#culturetrav a3: now. Language, even dialect, picks up cultural concepts. The more important the concept in culture, the more you'll see it in language.

A3 There are all these little customs, foods, traditions, etc. which are unique to a place. Fika in Sweden, for example, or a siesta in Spain. Experiencing these things is part of travel in my opinion! #culturetrav
replying to @travelcricket8 @travelcricket8 A3: Language is one of the primary definers of a culture. So many are being lost as the smaller indigenous language is no longer practiced. #Culturetrav
A3: I think language itself tells a story. For example, in Jamaica they speak English, but also Patois- a language derived from the islands history of interaction between the French, Dutch, English, and Spanish. #CultureTrav
replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A3) I think that different languages can bind us together via song and dance like when I went to a Tango show in Buenos Aires. #CultureTrav

@Nicolette_O A3 Language is part of our culture, that connects us and becomes an intrinsic part of who we are. Learning new languages helps us to better understand other countries, cultures, customs and people.

replying to @travelcricket8 @travelcricket8 A3 Quite largely! Some languages that are dying out are started to be re-taught so they don't disappear which is amazing and part of history and a culture. Like Irish or Quechuan 😊 #CultureTrav

A3. Love countries with a blend of cultures. Morocco is a perfect example. Arabic, Darija, Berber, French and Spanish dialects depending where you are. Islamic and Jewish communities. Cuisines from all over. So lively and interesting! #culturetrav

replying to @travelcricket8 @travelcricket8 A3 It's the most basic frame of a culture. When I was studying abroad in Canada the linguist who'd first fully translated a First Nations language told a story about eventually figuring out a suffix meant "used to exist but no longer does" & that it took 1/2 #CultureTrav
