A3: I've found that depending on the language(s), I can pick up similarities in sound/words. And, while I don't speak (much) German, I've also found there are cultural similarities to the Netherlands or Belgium, as neighboring countries. #CultureTrav

A3: With exceptions, many of our languages borrow words and phrases from each other, so I think that's one way we're bound to different cultures. Et tu? @Nicolette_O

A2: I always learn basic pleasantries, common questions and how to order foods I like when I travel. I write it all down (both in the language Iām learning and phonetically) in the notebook I take with me, so if I get stuck, I can read or just point! #culturetrav
#culturetrav a3: now. Language, even dialect, picks up cultural concepts. The more important the concept in culture, the more you'll see it in language.

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A2: Yeah, when I was hospitalized in Prague last year. I don't speak Czech, and only 2 or 3 people in the entire clinic spoke English. Lots of gesturing ensued. I just took everything nice and slow and tried to keep a good sense of humor. #CultureTrav

A3 There are all these little customs, foods, traditions, etc. which are unique to a place. Fika in Sweden, for example, or a siesta in Spain. Experiencing these things is part of travel in my opinion! #culturetrav
