Q5: Smells can remind us of moments in time. Is there a particular smell that reminds you of a destination you've visited, or home? What is it? #CultureTrav

A5: Living on the coast means my nose has gotten used to the smell of saltwater--a welcome greeting when I return to Laguna Beach after travel. This fresh, sharp scent makes me happy to be home--ready to rededicate myself to cleaning up the beach. #CultureTrav #plasticpollutes

A5 I always say that European cities have a distinct smell. I can't put my finger on it, but it hits me every time I visit. #CultureTrav

#culturetrav A5: my favourite smell is that of pine forests after rainstorms. This is because I grew up near a pine forest and used to go running in it as a teen, so it has ... personal connotations.

A5: Any time I smell a wood fire during the winter, I immediately go to the mountains in my head. What about you? @Nicolette_O #CultureTrav #travel

A5: Snow! I love the smell of snow! It reminds me of home, no matter where I am! #CultureTrav

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A5: when I deplaned in Caracas the air smelled of mildew and roasting meats..it’s a combination I’ve encountered in a few developing countries. Very specific #CultureTrav

replying to @travelcricket8 @travelcricket8 A5 the smell of suncream reminds me so much of my first travels as a boy with my family. Mum would cover me in it to protect me from the sun every 5 minutes! Great memories 😊 #CultureTrav

#culturetrav A5: being British, we have a large Indian population. So the smell of fresh ground spices and frying spices is one I'm used to; fabulous and I'm lost in a food haze.

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A5: A beach smell always makes us think of home, since we grew up around the block from the beach! We always feel at home no matter what beach we're on #CultureTrav 🏖️

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A5: The smell of pierogi frying in butter or sauerkraut soup ALWAYS reminds me of my parents' house. As for travel, I don't know how to explain it, but I will always be able to remember what Peru smells like, even if I can't put it into words. #CultureTrav

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A5 When I was a child my Mom used to bake bread. The smell of freshly baked bread always brings back those memories. #CultureTrav

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A5. This sounds odd, but museums have particular smells. Not a bad smell, just a distinct museum-y smell. So when I’m in a library at home, I am reminded of museums. I’m a museum addict. 😃 #CultureTrav

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A5: Answered this in @travelcricket8 #4 😄. The distinct smell of earth and rain in Havana. It woke me up & I had deja vu to being home in Nigeria. Sure enough, it began raining 10mins after. We are nature. #CultureTrav
