Q3: Do you have a tradition you inherited from your family? Can you speak to its significance? #CultureTrav

A3: We celebrate Christmas Eve (Wigilia) in Polish tradition. The dinner–consisting of multiple courses– is meatless, and has simple ingredients. This post describes the tradition (though we don't eat 12 courses, haha): https://t.co/H51eOyfcoZ #CultureTrav

replying to @travelcricket8 @travelcricket8 #CultureTrav A3) For Christmas, we always attend (and sing in the choir) for midnight mass. although it's no longer held at midnight anymore, even at the Vatican!

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A3: Don't know the significance other than being partly Slovak, but on Christmas Eve we always do pierogi, kapustnica (sauerkraut soup), and some kind of fish. In Slovakia, they use carp, and keep the carp in their bathtub for the week leading up to Christmas. #CultureTrav

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A3. I come from a very untraditional family, my parents are hippies and my son is not that much younger than me, so I think our tradition is probably being untraditional! Which is likely what led me to live in an airstream and travel full time! ☺️ #CultureTrav

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A3: Eating Lutefisk used to be a tradition on the Swedish side of the family. Eeks, I never could stomach it. A lot of people in MN still enjoy it! #CultureTrav

A3: Many of my ancestors came from Norway, so we make and eat Norwegian food at Christmas. In fact, I was about 10 before I realized that not everybody had lefse (potato flatbread) at Christmas dinner and that the cookies I loved weren’t made from American recipes. #CultureTrav

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A3: I know my grandpa when really little as a child apparently had wooden shoes in #Spain and on Christmas Eve they would be filled with candy to find the next day from Saint Nicholas. It ceased happening for his family at the avent of the Spanish Civil War though. #CultureTrav
