Q3: Have you ever learned or picked up slang in a foreign language that you found interesting? What was it and where? #CultureTrav

A3: As a "Yank" at a West Cork Lit Fest, I was "banjaxed" by #slang I didn't get. I returned to #Ireland & interviewed "The Lads Who Wrote the Books on Irish Slang. It's Irish tradition to "slag," or tease in good fun. #CultureTrav #CultureTrip #language https://t.co/lW9OVj3I3b

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O #culturetrav A3) My favorite French slang expression I learned in grammar school was "Ferme la!" which essentially means "Shut up!" Just sounds so much more sophisticated to say in French.

A3: On our recent trip to Israel, our guides were often yelling "yalla!" to us slow people in the group, meaning "hurry up!" After a while, we all started yelling it at each other 😂 #culturetrav

A3 Are you kidding? I try to pick up some slang everywhere I go. For those of you wanting to #travel to #Cuba or even South Florida & #calleocho you must know DALE, which means OK, Do it, understood, go ahead, give it a go, etc, etc. You will hear it everywhere. #culturetrav

A3 Not exactly sure if it's slang but picked up saying tschüss as a greeting in Germany instead of being more formal. #culturetrav

replying to @Nicolette_O @Nicolette_O A3: I'm in the midst of trying to learn the colloquialisms and nuances of the French language. "Devenir chêvre" literally means "To become a goat" - but means the equivalent of "to be driven mad" - LOL #CultureTrav

A3 Not a new language but a regional difference, we're living with an Irishman at the moment - and he's always using the word craic, to talk about fun/good times! (Its pronounced like crack!) As in 'she's a good craic' or 'we had such a good craic last night' #CultureTrav

A3 #culturetrav Slovenian claims not to have any swear words so they borrow from Serbo-Croatian or just use the F word in English. Favorite expression: vukoj**ine, literally “place where the wolves have sex” or the boondocks.
