A4: U.S. English slang is regional. In So. California ("SoCal"), where I live ("behind the orange curtain") in Orange County ("the OC"), we speak surf slang ("grom" for "grommet" or young surfer), But it's also generational. I'm 2 old 2 say "dope" when I mean gr8. #CultureTrav

replying to @travelcricket8 @travelcricket8 #culturetrav A4) I love the slang that I create within my family/friend groups, which makes our convos in public that much more unique and hard for others to understand.

A4: I am constantly amused by English slang. I usually startusing it ironically, until it becomes a part of my actual vocabulary. Happens every time! #culturetrav

replying to @travelcricket8 @travelcricket8 A4: There's a word that mothers often use to request their kids to comply - it's "Balai Lagey" in my native tongue. Recently while visiting my native city, I overheard this term and for a moment was transported in time. Ahh - the power of slang! #CultureTrav
