GenXTravel

Welcome to today's #GenXTravel Chat. We will be discussing what may be an area of travel that is unfamiliar to you, #MedicalTourism. I hope you find it interesting. Before we get started, where are you tweeting from today?

#GenXTravel A1) I’ve read a lot of articals and know a few people that have traveled to other countries for cancer treatments

A2. Yes. I've known about it for about 5 years. I kinda discovered it by accident and didn't really know it was a trend. #GenXTravel #MedicalTourism

#GenXTravel A2) The people I know usually just go for the treatment. They usually don’t engage in a lot of sightseeing

replying to @obligatraveler @obligatraveler I think depending on the treatment, it may not be feasible to do much sightseeing unless you add some extra time to the front end of the trip. #GenXTravel

A3. I have not done it but considered having a procedure done in Germany a few years ago. #GenXTravel #MedicalTourism

#GenXTravel A3) I’d consider it if there were treatments available in other countries not available in the U.S

replying to @StuartMHurlbut @StuartMHurlbut Look at those amazing pictures. Is the one with the pool where you are staying? #GenXTravel

A4. This is exactly what I was considering. The procedure I needed was only being done in 2 places at the time, Philadelphia and Germany. And for what it would cost in the US (not covered by insurance) I could have a trip and the procedure in Germany. #GenXTravel #MedicalTourism

#GenXTravel A4) I’m terrible at recovering from things so I don’t know if I would build a whole trip, though if I was somewhere beachy, I wouldn’t mind recovering in a lounge chair

A5. Germany but also Mexico and any country I've researched thoroughly. I understand S. American and Asian countries are on par with the US for quality of care. I've been trying to get my brother to go to Mexico to have his teeth fixed for some time. #GenXTravel #MedicalTourism

#GenXTravel A5) Not sure. I know Germany offers a lot of alternative treatments. I’ve heard Singapore has a lot of good medical advancements

#GenXTravel I've read quite a bit about the new hospital that opened a few years ago in Grand Cayman. It seems state of the art!

A5. We'd consider Italy as it has some of the best cardiac care in the world. #genxtravel

replying to @StuartMHurlbut @StuartMHurlbut Well, it looks pretty fantastic to me. #GenXTravel

A6. I can't say I would immediately rule out a country but I think I would be more prone to go to medically advanced countries and English speaking countries. However, I would need to research it first. #GenXTravel #MedicalTourism

RT @ChinaMatt: Pretty much anywhere. #genxtravel https://t.co/jnFwlXVazR https://t.co/BVKdY2II1K

replying to @GenXTraveler @GenXTraveler #GenXTravel If I was to consider anywhere it would probably be Singapore. As I'm British and I will be returning to the UK to live after being elsewhere for 14 years, I probably won't need to as Healthcare is free in the UK. Unless it's a procedure that isn't available.

#GenXTravel #MedicalTourism Here is what @Cayman_Islands says about it. https://t.co/CLM52csiWb

#GenXTravel A6) Anywhere that doesn’t practice good cleanliness. Other than that I’d be open

replying to @StuartMHurlbut @StuartMHurlbut Is Brexit going to have any affect on the healthcare system in the UK? I'm a little naive about all that. #GenXTravel

Yes, it feels good to travel to places where you know you can find medical treatment in general. #GenXTravel #MedicalTourism

A7. Mexico is definitely marketing itself to Americans for the purpose of #MedicalTourism. I expect to see more countries doing it in the coming years. #GenXTravel

#GenXTravel A6. I would rule out Indonesia. I've lived in Indonesia for years and the Healthcare system doesn't have a good reputation. A lot of Wealthy Indonesians travel to Singapore for treatment.

replying to @TravelRobin @TravelRobin @Cayman_Islands Thanks for sharing this. They make it look like a true vacation. #GenXTravel

replying to @GenXTraveler @GenXTraveler A7 Mexico & Costa Rica I hear about the most. #GenXTravel #MedicalTourism

replying to @TravelRobin @TravelRobin I agree. As a person with some health conditions there is comfort in that. #GenXTravel

RT @GenXTraveler: @TravelRobin I agree. As a person with some health conditions there is comfort in that. #GenXTravel

#GenXTravel A7) I haven’t see any large scale advertisements. Once I did see a top IVF clinic in Panama, City advertising as it cost less than half the price as it does in the U.S

Have not heard of any, but understand that Costa Rica has a good healtcare system. #genxtravel

replying to @GenXTraveler @GenXTraveler A7 Costa Rica and of course Mexico. I live in San Diego and know lots of people crossing the border for this. #GenXTravel #MedicalTourism

RT @TravelRobin: #GenXTravel #MedicalTourism Here is what @Cayman_Islands says about it. https://t.co/CLM52csiWb

A8. Because of the cost of medical care in the US, I would say no. However, I know people do it in some case. Also, people, specially from China come here to have babies in order for the child to have citizenship. #MedicalTourism #GenXTravel

replying to @GenXTraveler @GenXTraveler #GenXTravel It shouldn't make any difference in the UK but it might cause problems for Brits living in other European countries or for British tourists. At the moment there are reciprocal agreements because of EU membership. But if there is no deal who knows what will happen.

replying to @PostcardJar @PostcardJar Take a look at this from @TravelRobin #GenXTravel https://t.co/GoR7Zd7gt6…

replying to @GenXTraveler @GenXTraveler A8 US has some great doctors, but it's pretty expensive! #genxtravel

replying to @52perfectdays @52perfectdays My brother needs extensive dental work. I keep trying to get him to go to Mexico to have it done. He's rather suffer. #GenXTravel
