Q6: Do you typically book a tour while visiting historic sites, and what are the advantages or disadvantages of doing so? #InspireToWander

replying to @Kasiawrites @Kasiawrites A6: I’m a big believer that every place is a historic hotspot, it just depends on what type of history you’re most interested in (and how museums and sites paint that history through displays). #InspiretoWander

replying to @inspiretowander @inspiretowander A6: As a tour guide, I’m a huge fan of having an expert help guide me around a place. Sometimes I can do it myself, but the expertise is just so worth it b/c you hear things you would never otherwise know. Big fan. #InspiretoWander

A6: While they're great for learning, I don't care for tours. I'd rather explore on my own than walk in groups while listening to audio guides. #inspiretowander

A6 I'm not a big guided tour person, but depending on the site it can be very helpful. Places that have detailed maps or lots of signage are more fun to explore on your own, but not everywhere has that info handy so a guide can be good. #InspireToWander

replying to @inspiretowander @inspiretowander A6: I'm so guilty of not booking tours when I go places. But when I do, I always learn so much so I probably should be more often! #InspireToWander

replying to @JustinLaurenXO @JustinLaurenXO A6: i do book them, and I find that the advantage is learning things but the disadvantage is having to actually stay with the group when you just want to move on and do your own thing. #InspireToWander

replying to @inspiretowander @inspiretowander A6: It depends on the site but usually do. I find that you can learn so much, like personal stories, with a tour guide. Or something funny can happen, like when we did a skip-the-line-tour to see David in Florence and our guide kept calling him the “Big Boy.” 🤣🤣#InspireToWander

replying to @JustinLaurenXO @JustinLaurenXO A6. I don't really book tours because I enjoy exploring on my own, rather in groups and I like learning as I go, at my own pace or later, after I've visited. Also, I'm cheap! 😁 #InspiretoWander

A6. We prefer to book a tour for historical sites. Tour guides have a way of making old walls come alive with funny stories #inspiretowander

replying to @byland_and_sea @byland_and_sea A6: For me it depends on the popularity of the site. If a tour will avoid having to wait in long lines then definitely! Also depends how much I know about the site. #InspireToWander

A6 I prefer self-guided tours because then I get to set my own pace, skip sections I'm not interest in and spend longer at those I like, and I can do the tours whenever I like. #inspiretowander

replying to @inspiretowander @inspiretowander A6: It really just depends on how much more I want to learn about the historic site. Certain places like the Vatican I booked a tour with. Advantage is you can learn more and ask as many questions as you want. Disadvantage is you can't go at your own pace. #InspireToWander

replying to @JustinLaurenXO @JustinLaurenXO A6: Only if the logistics involved would be too difficult to do on my own. Tours take care of a lot of the variables, but that means you're restricted to someone else's plan and time. #InspireToWander

replying to @inspiretowander @inspiretowander A6: it depends on what type of site it is and what I’m looking for. Sometimes it’s nice to travel in a good to meet people and have a guide explain things, but other times I like to experience the sites on my own and at my own pace #InspireToWander

A6) Booking a tour often allows a way to see more of the site than you could if you were only attending as a guest. We would never have found the intimate experience of Eleanor Roosevelt's home without a booked tour at Val Kill Cottage. #InspireToWander @NPS_HydePark
