A4: One thing is I don't wander off by myself at night alone. Via @suitcasenall #solotravel #JAchat

A4: As they say, use common sense. Don't dress provocatively, don't wear expensive jewelry, avoid shady areas. #JAchat

A4: I try to always be aware of my surrounding whenever I travel, but especially if I am alone. It's not "enjoyable" always being on guard, but it's important. #JAchat

A4 #JAchat I get a local SIM card so I can always use Google Maps, Uber and call emergency numbers if needed. I avoid areas known to be dangerous - just listen to what the locals say!

A4. To feel safe when I travel solo, I check in w people and let them know where I am and also trust my instinct when there. #JAchat #solotravel

replying to @jettingaround @jettingaround @suitcasenall A4: Always make sure you know local emergency numbers (police, local hospitals, etc.) and have a plan for how you can contact loved ones. Hopefully you will never need it, but better safe than sorry #JAChat

replying to @jettingaround @jettingaround @suitcasenall A4. I always travel with international internet or get a local sim card. The only location I've felt unsafe was Belize City. Not a nice place to visit, especially in the dark.

#jachat A4: the same stuff i do when I'm around my hometown alone. Knowledge is power. Know the areas, know how to get from a to b, and dont walk down side streets in the dark.

replying to @Claudioula @Claudioula @suitcasenall A4 Nothing too different than regular #travel really. Stay aware and have someone you can touch base with every few days. For solo #hiking I carry a whistle, though I forgot it on this hike. #JAchat

replying to @jettingaround @jettingaround @suitcasenall A4. Minimalism is your friend when you're on your own. Less to keep track of, less to get lost, less to get stolen. Plus, minimalism in your wardrobe (solid colors, etc) to avoid any cultural misunderstandings. #JAchat #solotravel

A4. No flashy jewelry. Being aware of surroundings. A x-body bag. Clothes that don't draw negative/unnecessary attention. #JAChat

replying to @CharlesMcCool @CharlesMcCool @suitcasenall A4 For safety, I walk in well-lit areas at night and carry my cellphone. Going out to a restaurant or bar on your own gives you a chance to make new friends #JAChat
