Illness and Medical Insurance

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Hi everyone. At home in North Yorkshire for the first Sunday in weeks...with a glass of Malbec (the cup of tea ain't mine!) #PTTravel

I'm joining from a very blustery North East of England with a very sore knee. I fell over on a run this morning. Fitness is lethal!
Joining #PTTravel chat from Maryland to talk with @kate_frankie about illness and medical insurance when traveling.
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot I was just there and I never realized that. 😂#PTTravel
A1 I get an annual family policy (currently with InsureFor). On the face of it looks adequate but unfortunately you never know how good they are until you have to use them. Never, ever made a claim #pttravel
A1 Even if you have good health insurance, be sure to check before you get too deep into planning if you'll still be covered wherever your trip takes you. #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Good evening! I'm a bit late and very distracted right now, as I completely forgot the time and I'm in the middle of making Yorkshire puddings to go with the beef I've got roasting. #pttravel
#PTTravel
A1 I have my own personal travel insurance that I get annual good cover on for just over £100 and USA/Canada is included
I also have risk assessments to do for my company to get cover for my work trips. Medical cover is a good level and repatriation included
replying to @Txiki_Tales @Txiki_Tales @kate_frankie Ooh lovely. I've just cracked open a merlot to *help* with the cooking #pttravel

replying to @Txiki_Tales @Txiki_Tales I'm pretty lucky that I haven't claimed and hope I don't have to #PTTravel
replying to @vickyinglis13 @vickyinglis13 @Txiki_Tales It always helps. The food somehow tastes better. #PTTravel
A1 Travel insurance is just essential, there is no way around that https://t.co/1SM5RGH5nl #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie @ManvsGlobe @heywhatsupcourt @CharlesMcCool @Txiki_Tales @RoamingRequired @dipyourtoesin @DawnCorleone @russellofearth @SidewalkSafari A1. I usually go with mid-range cover through Thomson. I’ve never had to make a claim though, so I have no idea if it’s actually any good. #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie @ManvsGlobe @findinganeish @CharlesMcCool @Txiki_Tales @RoamingRequired @dipyourtoesin @DawnCorleone @russellofearth @SidewalkSafari A1. Hi Everyone! Ohhh travel insurance is good topic, love to know more about it cause I never get one, and thinking that its a good idea depending where. However I do always bring the basic meds just in case of emergency #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie @vickyinglis13 If the wine is good, does it matter what the food is like? ;-) #pttravel
replying to @bemusedbackpack @bemusedbackpack Have you ever claimed against yours? I hear a lot of horror stories but I wonder how bad it can be #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie @JKatzaman Tech like cameras and laptops are often left out of standard policies which most people don't realise until it is too late #PTTravel
A1. I have specific travel insurance from that includes cover for tall ship and offshore sailing voyages. It includes some other activities, but I also have additional insurance for trekking in mountain areas #PTTravel

Hey everyone! I’m currently in the #Dubai airport, on a layover between #Maldives and #Mauritius #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2. Luckily, I’ve had no major illnesses or injuries while abroad. But I still purchase travel insurance because I’m sure some day my time will come for a mishap! #PTTravel
A2 I picked up a parasite in the Philippines that I didn't realize until my arrival in Japan where life was quite a rush for a few days. #PTTravel

The costs are crazy especially USA hospital charges or getting you back home

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2 I once got dengue fever in India, soon after this pic was taken. It was hell, and fully deserves its nickname breakbone fever! #PTTravel https://t.co/GPrVXdcNOc
A2 I travelled a few times with atrial fibrilation - even when it got quite bad. I did have a specific policy at the time tho. Worst injury I've had travelling is a few cracked ribs...from trying to break a record on a bloody waterslide #pttravel
replying to @PalmTreeMusings @PalmTreeMusings That’s not such a bad place to be! I’ve heard that’s quite an airport. #PTTravel
A1. We have an insurance policy that is geared towards Americans living/traveling abroad. Basically we pay hospital bills/medical card and then get reimbursed. We’ve never had to use it. #PTTravel

£35-45,000 for a flight back from East coast USA to UK unless you are covered in your travel insurance if you need medical attention & repatriation.

A2 cont. Fortunately the giardia I contracted in Cuba was right at the end of the trip. I did lose a stone and a half in weight in the few days after arriving home. Could do with a bit of that now. #pttravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2. I sprained my ankle in London but had the NHS to fall back on. Overseas the worst I’ve had to deal with is the runs. #PTTravel
replying to @Txiki_Tales @Txiki_Tales Hahaha typical competitive injury. I'd do something like that! 😄 #PTTravel
