Welcome to #PTTravel chat where we’re talking ethical travel. I’m your host tonight while @kate_frankie is off on a work trip. Where are you all tweeting from today?

replying to @WouldBTraveller @WouldBTraveller @kate_frankie Welcome to hosting, Anna. I'm at home in Yorkshire and found a photo of a fairly local #beer. @LittleValleyAle is one of the most ethical breweries in the UK apparently #PTTravel

A1: Experiencing a destination and leaving it in a better state than it was before you arrived or at least not impacting it negatively. Supporting local businesses and communities, being an ambassador for tourism and learning new things about places #PTTravel

replying to @WouldBTraveller @WouldBTraveller A1. Ethical travel for me is responsible travel. It’s travel with people, their heritage and the environment in mind. #PTTravel

A1 I wouldn't say that I was ultra-ethical travelwise but I always try to travel with a 'light touch' - walking wherever possible, local public transport, local bars and restaurants rather than international chains and beers from local breweries wherever possible #pttravel

A2: It's tough and I don't think anyone claim that they are doing everything "ethically". Sometimes it's difficult to tell where your money ends up or the lure of free WiFi in Starbucks is too much. I definitely try and be as mindful as possible though #PTTravel

replying to @travelexx @travelexx It's been like Narnia here just a bit further north of you. Between Luton and Milton Keynes. #PTTravel

replying to @WouldBTraveller @WouldBTraveller A2. I try to be. I travel unpretentiously, I walk as much as possible and I spend my money wisely. I do have a habit of buying bottled water, but I’m getting better. #PTTravel

A3: I want to highlight @shedd_aquarium in #Chicago. I know a lot of people have issues w/ animals in captivity but that place does so much for conservation, is super hot on educating visitors and is even one of very few places in the world to hold humane certification #PTTravel

So many things to do is one of the reasons to #travel to #Dubai! But it is a very expensive city. So you may need some tips for saving money. https://t.co/NTi6biPMWx #PTTravel

replying to @WouldBTraveller @WouldBTraveller A3. For me it’s probably Basel Zoo, or Bern for that matter. The zoos make excellent use of the land, housing many native species and blurring the boundaries between enclosure and environment. The storks CHOOSE to nest there. #PTTravel

replying to @WouldBTraveller @WouldBTraveller A5. I once visited an eco-café that used Evian for tea and coffee. In his defence, the proprietor lived off of river water but the council wouldn’t permit him to serve it, even boiled. #PTTravel
