replying to @StromfieldAdvs @StromfieldAdvs @PagePlacePlate @LixHewett Typing this tweet is an example of a Gerund, in that first word 'typing'. #pttravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A3 And I've met you. 😝 Let me meet Ian then I'll let you know. Hahaha! My dad worked for a British tea company all his life. Haven't met any so far. 😂 #pttravel
replying to @PagePlacePlate @PagePlacePlate @kate_frankie I'll pass on. Tenerife, Ibiza, Magaluf #pttravel
replying to @DawnCorleone @DawnCorleone @kate_frankie #pttravel I wouldn't run down any American who doesn't have a passport. Your country is so huge and diverse, you can have a different experience wherever you go.
replying to @Pinkzenjoy @Pinkzenjoy @kate_frankie I'm more violent when drunk #pttravel is that a stereotype?
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @PagePlacePlate @LixHewett Oooh, that rings some distant bell from Spanish learning.....cheers! #pttravel
replying to @PagePlacePlate @PagePlacePlate I will be going to Majorca soon with my family and hope it won't be full of Brits making a mess and drinking a lot. I've made mistakes myself but I always try to act politely and not be an arse! ##PTTravel
RT @BudgetBreakBlog: @PagePlacePlate @kate_frankie I'll pass on. Tenerife, Ibiza, Magaluf #pttravel https://t.co/6xGRSgxQQu
replying to @vickyinglis13 @vickyinglis13 @RTWBarefoot oooohh yes, me too! I thought it would make me "get over it", but although I do know I can do it now of course, it isn't any easier somehow. #pttravel
replying to @BudgetBreakBlog @BudgetBreakBlog @kate_frankie I do want to go to Tenerife as its Canarian, but the quiet side of the island. Hard pass on the other two! #pttravel
replying to @StromfieldAdvs @StromfieldAdvs @RTWBarefoot @PagePlacePlate @LixHewett #pttravel I used to know ... but I was taught it in Latin, not English 😀
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie Indeed. That is exactly why many don’t travel internationally. #PTTravel
RT @DawnCorleone: @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie Indeed. That is exactly why many don’t travel internationally. #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A3. I mean, there’s statistical and anecdotal evidence to back many of these generalisations up, but for every walking stereotype you’ll meet another who bucks the trend — usually a fellow traveller. #PTTravel
replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith @kate_frankie Quite true. We have so much to see here. #PTTravel
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @StromfieldAdvs @PagePlacePlate Yeah, you guys actually have different definitions for gerunds than Spanish does, because in Spanish anything ending in -ing is a gerund (verbal form) but I think English requires it to be in a noun position? #pttravel
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie Isn't it? But then our Bollywood movies also stereotype drunkards. 😂 #pttravel
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @Pinkzenjoy You are never violent when I see you and we've been a bit squiffy! I think we're quite well behaved #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie I find just going to the places which look more local and authentic. Brits tend to segregate themselves automatically by only going to food places that serve a full English 😂#pttravel

replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @StromfieldAdvs @PagePlacePlate Um, I was a syntax geek in high school. For Spanish. I analyzed paragraphs from books when I got bored in class. #pttravel

replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith Takk fyrir will help you. And the very useful phrase: hvar er járnbrautarstöð? To which the answer is Thurso, or maybe Plockton, in Scotland. #pttravel
replying to @PagePlacePlate @PagePlacePlate @kate_frankie Expense is one component. But I think the main reason is the diversity of choices and things to see here. #PTtravel
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie I enjoy watching tourist folks on the beach doing their leaping sunrise/sunset selfies. #pttravel

@kate_frankie @Pinkzenjoy i was trying to impress you :p #pttravel ;)
lol. It depends on how I'm feeling, and what else I'm doing. It's why I avoid Political Twitter, re earlier chat!
replying to @BudgetBreakBlog @BudgetBreakBlog @PagePlacePlate @kate_frankie I hear you - though Ibiza is quite high up on our list as there's supposed to be some really good walking there :) #pttravel - never heard that about Magaluf though.

replying to @FoodTruckKings @FoodTruckKings @PagePlacePlate I don't mind English to start with at all but trying is really nice. I def noticed this in France -- I'm Spanish and my French is AWFUL but my English is very good and sometimes people don't realize I'm not native. #pttravel
replying to @LixHewett @LixHewett @StromfieldAdvs @PagePlacePlate the Wikipedia article for "Gerund" is quite large .... #pttravel
A2- Definitely not true, but locals seem to really appreciate it when you learn a phrase or 2 #PTtravel
replying to @LixHewett @LixHewett @RTWBarefoot @PagePlacePlate YES! That's what I remember! estoy descansando was my first! #pttravel
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @StromfieldAdvs @PagePlacePlate Yeah, I know the meaning in English, Spanish, French, Latin and ancient Greek--and most of them have different uses! Like in Spanish it's mostly morphological but in Latin it's syntactical. #pttravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A4: Many times. The people are rude, there is nothing to do, this other place is better, etc. #pttravel
replying to @findinganeish @findinganeish @kate_frankie What a great sentiment...and photo. #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Again Kenya because of violence and pirates, despite the fact I was nowhere near Somalia or the cities having issues. Mum thought I was in danger because there was a murder in Nairobi when I out there but I was over 10 hours away about to scale a mountain 😂 #pttravel
A5. My first international teaching jobs was in Haiti and I had tons of people tell me not to move there, because they were worried I’d get AIDS. This was in 2003, not 1983. #PTTravel

I've met and made friends with many people from USA when I've travelled. I have encountered lovely Parisians who are very welcoming and know many Brits who don't drink or behave badly abroad.
BUT
the stereotypes are built on real, bad experiences
replying to @StromfieldAdvs @StromfieldAdvs @PagePlacePlate @kate_frankie I did not know Ibiza had anything but nightlife and beaches! We'll have to look into it #pttravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A3: 50/50 on this. As I mentioned to the Chinese students, quite a few times, I'm only one person so don't fully represent the 🇬🇧 😁 Travel is all about observing and exploding stereotypes #pttravel
replying to @LixHewett @LixHewett @RTWBarefoot @PagePlacePlate Wow! you've studied a lot of languages! what do you do? #pttravel
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @StromfieldAdvs @PagePlacePlate I def remember Latin was a MESS, with what I'd consider a gerund being an active participle and stuff like that. #pttravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A4: When I announced to friends and family in 2013 that I was moving to Cambodia, I was advised against it. I think people think it’s a “dangerous place.” #PTTravel
replying to @PagePlacePlate @PagePlacePlate @kate_frankie Aww, typical mum I suppose! 😃 #PTTravel
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @DawnCorleone @kate_frankie The 🇺🇸 is a country I want to spend a lot more time in. Especially the Grand Canyon, Montana and California. #PTTravel
