A4 On my year in France, there were two other English assistants staying in the same town (Northern lasses!) but working in other schools - we even took a coach trip to Spain together! #pttravel

A4 #PTTravel Not at all ... I can usually hook up with other travellers. However, some operators (esp. cruise lines) do make a determined effort to get solos together; a practice not to everyone's taste.

A4 #PTTravel If I was alone, it was by choice. I never felt isolated. Finding other travelers isn't hard, just go to the tourist areas.

A4 I took a food tour in Bristol and it was a great way to meet other travellers. They were all couples but all so friendly and it was great to spend a few hours with new people trying new foods 😋 #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A4 yes, I've felt isolated as a solo traveler. In China, I went days without speaking to anyone because of the language barrier. VPNs are a must for China! I've found other solo travelers are more open; groups are harder to break into! #PTTravel

replying to @Txiki_Tales I did feel isolated at times, but growing up as one of three siblings in a relatively small house I actually valued having quite a bit of time to myself ;-) #pttravel

A1. I don't think I've done that many solo trips, as I'll often meet a ship's crew or expedition team on the way. But I had a wonderful few weeks in Iceland several years ago driving the ring road, hiking and camping #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie It was great. Easy and convenient public transportation was the key. I saw so much in one week thanks to the MTR system. #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A1: My first solo trip was to London, Wales, Paris, and then on to Naples to nanny when I was 19. It was 1999. no cellphones, no social media, and I carried a huge @lonelyplanet book with me ;-) #PTTravel

A4 I enjoy some time doing my own travel but I don't feel isolated. You need to just start a few conversations and get chatting. People, especially other travellers, are really nice and generally inclusive. I'll always chat to someone!

A4 Yeah sometimes I felt a bit lonely travelling on my won,it's just nice to share some of your experiences with someone - I'm quite vocal! I would go to the hostels in the lonely planet, I once roamed the street entertainment in Cuenca to meet company for Christmas! #Pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2: My biggest fear was feeling lonely and having to do everything on my own, but it was actually really enlightening. I accidentally took a pic of a drug deal in Naples, and had to hide in a bank. but otherwise no issues! #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A5) I haven’t had enough experience of solo travel to really know, but not being able to split the cost of an Airbnb or hotel room would make things more expensive. Depends if you’re happy with a hostel! #PTTravel

BudgetBreakBlog

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A5 not at all! Hostels are very easy and cheap. I've found it cheaper to travel solo b/c I don't need to compromise on buying tickets for things I'd normally skip or get more expensive food and accommodation #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2) There are always fears when travelling solo as a woman especially where there are language barriers but I did meet a few people to talk to at the hotel! #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel There was a lovely 'solo' lady hooked up with us in Iceland. She said she liked us because we didn't begin every sentence with 'When we were in ...' or 'Have you been to...?' 😆

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A4: I don't like hostels (I'm an introvert who needs her sleep!). so I tend to hang out at bars if I want to meet people. which means I often meet locals rather than tourists. which I think is ideal! #PTTravel
