replying to @StromfieldAdvs @StromfieldAdvs @NomadKeith I am exactly the same! I sometimes really get a craving to go to a very famous place at peak tourist time. Can we help though? We're a group of people who know a lot about travel and getting away from crowds so let's see! #PTTravel

Afternoon all. I'm lounging around on the deck of my ship in Newlyn harbour, after a few days in the #IslesofScilly. We're off to Brittany in a couple of days, and there been plenty of cleaning to do. #pttravel

A1 Over-tourism means a place is too good to be left as is -- and it won't be that way for much longer. #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A1 yes, there's a point when seeing something becomes not worth the wait or problems/stress associated with crowds. As a biologist, overtourism in natural areas worries me because of increased human-wildlife conflict and trash #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel oooh, interesting, I guess over-tourism means that the people or site are becoming damaged because of the amount of people visiting - a lot of people if not damaging is just annoying!

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A1) Where conflicts arise between locals and tourists from over visiting a destination. It is changing travel as placed are being ruined/losing their charm/disappearing. Social media is somewhat to blame (many ways of looking at it). #PTTravel

A1 #PTTravel
Over-tourism for me is when you can't move for tourists but it's also not helping locals in that area. A lot of big tours flood in tourists who don't buy things and don't stay in local accommodation. It puts strain on that place and isn't sustainable

#PTTravel I grew up in Bowness on Windermere, and seen it grow from a quiet village to a tawdry tourist trap. I work as a volunteer at Stonehenge; I think I've got rather good distinguishing those who came to look and learn from those who just came to see

A1. I think overtourism is about too much pressure on the people and infrastructure at a location. Something that risks degrading the special qualities that makes the place attractive to visitors in the first place. #pttravel

A1) I see overtourism as an issue where thenplace is not longer the place people go to see and/or it changes its livability so that tourists are more accommodated. This is my perspective from someone who live in a city with overtourism (Amsterdam)

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel yes, I like your point about not buying things/don't stay local etc. There are lots of small things you can do to prevent your own 'over tourism' become more part of the problem.

replying to @biggsytravels @biggsytravels @kate_frankie Although rainy during the winter, you will certainly not freeze to death in Barcelona. I love the city then when it is not being overrun. #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Over-tourism is crowds of people at places that can’t cope with the volume of traffic. Or is irreparably damaged by the number of people there. I’ve seen some examples that have really ruined my experience! #pttravel

vickyinglis13

replying to @biggsytravels @biggsytravels @kate_frankie I think cities like that, and holiday resort areas, can cope with big numbers of visitors. They have the capacity and range of facilities in the way that small towns, islands, and rural areas cannot provide #pttravel

replying to @biggsytravels @biggsytravels @kate_frankie I hear ya! We went to Venice but noticed there are so many spots (much like Amsterdam) that you can stay in or visit that has less of an impact. I felt that since we stayed there and spent money, it was better than taking a cruise there. #pttravel
