A2 we're quite good at managing to avoid the crowds but our recent visit to florence just felt a bit too much hassle ; pre-booking for museums was OK but poor security, organisation, people moving as a phalanx etc #pttravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A5) Definitely as well as travel influencers, locals (all you need is social media tbh) #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie I think it’s cyclical, people travel to places till they’re overdone or a negative image rises, then people stop going until it becomes the secret place, the in place, the popular place again. #pttravel
A5 Tourist destinations can improve their attractiveness a lot through word of mouth. Reputation counts for a lot. #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A5. I do believe that travel agencies have a responsibility, not just to present their product accurately but to ensure that visitors and locals alike benefit from responsible tourism. #PTTravel

A5 I hope tourism boards & travel companies are paying attention to #overtourism conversations on social media.

replying to @bemusedbackpack @bemusedbackpack @kate_frankie The exact opposite at Petra in Jordan. It is super motivated by a protection ethic. There is just one tourist facility in the entire complex and it is made of wood. #pttravel

A6 Ask questions of your accommodation / travel company etc about how they source, dispose of rubbish etc. When you are asked for feedback from tourist offices give it #pttravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A5. Can and will are two different things. Reality is it is all about profit. The more people travel to a place, more revenue comes in, esp with companies. #PTTravel
replying to @Txiki_Tales @Txiki_Tales Discount flights are always on popular routes. I wonder whether supply and demand will always rule this area? #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A3 I think local tourism is great! People think you have to travel far to experience something new but that's not true! Travelling close to home is cheaper, better for the environment and your local economy #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A4 travel at off peak times (including seasons and days of the week) also get up early! The sunrise is worth the solitude #pttravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A6 travel off peak, visit early, plan ahead and be respectful no matter what. #pttravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A5 yes, I think governments should introduce quotas for tourism areas (eg. Limited # of national park permits) because if businesses and people can do it, they will. You cant expect every person to understand or care about issues of overtourism #pttravel

A6 #PTTravel The obvious answer would be stay at home 😆 But, practically, read articles, read blogs, talk to people who've been there. listen to positive and negative views, and make your own mind up.
Great chat this evening guys. Save the date #pttravel friends! Come and join us on Wednesday 31st between 9pm and 10pm for #scotlandhour We'll be taking the reins so lets make this one our biggest chat of the year. #visitscotland https://t.co/NaeC0uSYb6
A4 #pttravel Visit the busy places first thing in the morning before the crowds ...especially galleries and museums.
replying to @Txiki_Tales @Txiki_Tales @tweetinghelena Queues just need to set expectations I think. Tell me roughly how long at various points. I'll decide whether I stick it out or go somewhere else then come back #PTTravel
A6 As I've said early, spend your money in local neighbourhoods. Quality usually better, prices lower and a chance to mingle with locals. And try to converse in the local tongue - at least make an effort (eating Italian in Spain!!) #pttravel

Early early morning - before 8 if possible.
Also odd seasons, eg; winter in Rome the crowds go down by 5x.
