replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie We do our best to avoid the worst weather by checking how the system tracks; can we go north or south, wait in an area til it passes ahead, find sheltered waters? Swell is the worst as it can make the crew feel really ill and incapacitate some people #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie With enough rain, there's no such thing as waterproof #pTtRaVeL

Also, waterproof means water can't *escape*.

replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith @findinganeish @kate_frankie It wasn't raining when we made it to Tan Hill, but it was one of the windiest spots on the hike that we camped up at. #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A4) During monsoon season it's best to be travelling to a few places as the storms are not always as intense in some destinations. Book a hotel with lots of onsite activities such as a gym or indoor pool in case the rain storms last for a few hours. Also visit museums #PTTravel

A6 #PTTravel Quite often, airlines take this kind of stuff in their stride ... e.g. Cathay Pacific landing us at Hong Kong after a typhoon had just passed through. We did have to hold off for half an hour, till the worst had passed, though.

A6- You might want to avoid places that are prone to flooding during their rainy season

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel A6: again on The Hike, we were climbing the mountain Pen-Y-Ghent in Yorkshire, and the wind/rain were horrendous & constant.

Anyway, one the chaps we hiked with was taking all manner of pics with his relatively new iPhone.

It didn't survive the evening.

A6 #pttravel In winter, watch what the airlines are doing. If you are changing flights in a blizzard, they may change your flight for free. Here in the NW, @amtrak can have slides come down on their tracks. If you’re getting wild weather, watch websites & sign up for texts.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A6. I’ve learned not to trust British outdoor gear. As fine as it is for a British winter it rarely holds up to extreme conditions. My first week in Russia I was taken out to buy new kit. #PTTravel

replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot I've spent a lot of time in hot & humid places & they can be miserable. It helps to dress in natural fibres such a cotton & as few of them as is legally possible & culturally sensitive. Also helps to schedule most rigorous physical activities early & late in day. #PTTravel

Power cuts and general transport disruptions happen in many places around the world.
Try to take it in your stride as much as possible. Flights may get cancelled, trains come to a halt but they get going again quickly.
Help people out if you can and be patient
