A1 #PTTravel No connections, but I’m a WW2 buff & have enjoyed traveling Europe to various museums & sites to see battlefields. I took these in Zagreb, Croatia, some kind of reenactment, to this day I don’t know what they were doing.

A2 #PTTravel Yes, we can all learn from history. Visiting the Normandy Coast of France was one of my favorite war sites. We need to remember.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie @bethias #pttravel They have THE biggest! The Great Ocean Road was constructed by returning 'diggers', and is said to be the biggest war memorial in the world.

A2 #PTTravel Certainly; you rarely have to make a special trip, but when you do find something, it's always interesting to learn something of the history. This is the Allied memorial on Crete ... about which I knew little until I did some reading

replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith @kate_frankie I did enjoy the sculptures showing people working/doing tasks. This one commemorates the convicts/natives who were forced into labour #PTTravel

A3 We've mentioned one visit in A2 but another war memorial we've visited is the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin. This one is a bit different in that it's a bit abstract and was designed to be so. You are encouraged to make your own interpretations #PTTravel

A3 #PTTravel Hua Lo Prison AKA Hanoi Hilton in Vietnam was where they held US servicemen such as Sen. John McCain. It was interesting to see the place they were held & their experience.

A3 When we visited the Falkland Islands, I was looking for the name of my friend, when a hand gripped my shoulder, and a voice said 'Why did they do it, my friend?' Subsequently found out ... he was Argentinian, looking for some mention of his son #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A3 Visiting the Landmine Museum in Cambodia was a huge eye opener. Learned so much about the effects of war, even years and years after the fighting is done #PTTravel

Unknown soldier graves always hit hard for me. We spent years trying to find the grave of my maternal grandfathers relatives and it came through not long ago. He's in Belgium and it would have been good to have told my grandad before he died but we didn't get it
