replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A6 i don't mind either but I'd probably prefer locals because they always know the best places and can teach you about their culture. Language barriers can be tough but people are people and hand gestures help. #pttravel
I had couple of times cancelled flight when I stuck in Istanbul in hotel. That was adventure and I had a very interesting evening talking to my fellow travelers. #PTTravel
A6 Locals please. There are lots of ways to communicate
(though I do enjoy talking to fellow countrymen on my travels as well) #PTTravel
A6 Locals for sure. Words aren't the only way of communicating. Plus sometimes you both have a second language in common. I've had some of my best nights struggling to understand and be understood.
Alcohol helps enormously

A5. But I can't complain in comparison to my sister's travel woes. On the way back from Australia to Scotland her flight from Dubai was cancelled due to the 2010 Icelandic volcano. It was 8 days before she finally got back home. #PTTravel
A6 #PTTravel No preference. I can go a long time without saying a word, plus in this age where have a translator on our phone, you can communicate with someone. If I was in a room with ex pats, I probably wouldn’t say a lot anyway.
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Ex-pats but it'd be nice to have locals as you get to find out more about a place. I've not overly struggled with language as most places we've been people have spoken English. I do try and speak basic local language (please, thank you etc) as I find it's courteous #pttravel
A6- I prefer to hang with the locals. I don't worry about language barriers because everyone speaks beer

I'd take the locals the vast majority of the time. Even language barriers can be less of a pain with tech & translate apps. So easy now.
I had a broken conversation with a really great taxi driver in Bogota the other day. I did bits of Spanish & he tried English

A6 #PTTravel I speak French, and have some German and Spanish. If those, or English don't work, there's always mime,
