Q5 Have you travelled to any remote places or felt removed from towns and cities? Why and what was it like there?

The guides at #Uluru are fond of telling you that you are often closer to the International Space Station than McDonalds #PTTravel A5

replying to @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie #pttravel A5: most remote? Humans are a resilient species; it's rare to be completely away from them. But in terms of distance from a "town", I give you The Aral Sea, and "somewhere in Mongolia".

Quiet places. Great skies.

A5 #pttravel Driving from Brisbane to Melbourne I found myself in the middle of nowhere several times & one night didn’t have a reservation & wasn’t sure where to find a place. I almost slept in the car that night.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A5: The small beach towns in southern Spain felt remote! So peaceful and everyone was so relaxed, in their own little worlds #PTTravel

A5 #pttravel Probably the Breakaway Hills, which we saw on a day trip from Coober Pedy (which is, itself, pretty remote) A lot of it is sacred ground to the First Nations people, but our guide was one' Told us where we could & couldn't go & told some great stories.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A5. In a bus in southern Morocco when a rainstorm caused a flash flood. Roads washed out. Delayed for hours. I had no cell phone to call my hotel to warn them of my delay. So we passengers just went outside and chatted. Oddly enough, it was a little exhilarating. #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A5. Did a motorcycle trip on my own round Southern Loas.

Fine in the day, but driving at night and competing for road space with large trucks felt pretty isolating.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel A5: also, on my hike across the country last year, i had many nights in a tent, wild camping. That felt very ... miles from anywhere, at times; just me and the countryside.
