replying to @Stromfieldadvs @Stromfieldadvs #pttravel We did that ride! One of the best experiences ever! (I did write a letter to Regatta telling them their waterproofs weren't! 😀)

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2: It’ll just be different and you just gotta adapt. I feel I’d be stressed out travelling with kids maybe more a baby & always making sure I have facilities to hand but its probably just where I’m at in life. When its thrown at me I’ll be fine #pttravel

replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith ha ha ha ha - I took my camera and was very pleased to say that I didn't have to write a similar letter to the dry bag company! #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2. I travel solo. Other than attention from touts (which everyone experiences), I’ve never had a problem. I just employ the same common sense safety measures I use at home. I still get outraged looks from people when I tell them I travel solo. #pttravel

A3 #pttravel I have never been told not to go somewhere, but I do remember raising some eyebrows after my trips to Vietnam & The Balkans. I think some get an bad impression of a place when it’s in the news & they forget lands change over time.

A2- A lot of people ask when are kids old enough to travel. My son was 6 & my daughter 9 months when we moved to #Japan. My youngest was born there. They each have 15 countries down. It's about when you're ready, not them.

replying to @Stromfieldadvs @Stromfieldadvs @kate_frankie That must have been amazing! Wow! #pttravel

A3 Don't have many examples. We were in Bangkok during the 2009 uprising and kept getting texts from the FCO and family were worried, but it was really contained to a small area - no unrest here! #PTTravel

A3 #PTTravel I'm just back from the Algarve. I was expecting a rather tacky resort of beaches, bars and golf courses. But, I fould there's a lot else besides

Have you ever waded in a cranberry bog? https://t.co/2hQg5QZSzE We had so much fun with a wagon ride, wine tasting and a plunge! #PTTravel @CranberryDotCA

replying to @Stromfieldadvs @Stromfieldadvs #pttravel I left my DSLR on the coach, and just took my GoPro. Stills and excellent video ... I just had to edit out a couple of 'F-bombs'!

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel a3 my mother worried about my visiting Cambodia. But then my mother still thinks it's about 1983.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Taking the kids to India was very much a *strange* decision - they were 5 and 3 but it was excellent and we all loved it so much; the boys were talking about Delhi this morning #pttravel

A3 Pakistan, Bali (after bombing), Turkey, China and Colombia all caused a kind of concern or nervousness for me with some people. Really enjoyed all.
I remember being warned to keep an eye on all of my luggage in any 'drug trafficking' countries 🤷♀️🤦♀️

replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW #pttravel A lot of acquaintances of my Dad's generation advised not to go to Egypt. I'm so glad I didn't listen to them. (Been 3 times, and would go again tomorrow)

A3- I got a lot of warnings about #Prague before I visited and while I was there, but I still love the city. It's not a place that I would totally let my guard down, but there will definitely be a return trip
#pttravel #travelingsession

A3 was “too young” to solo backpack, weird that travel with Dad, & “too old” to visit Disney (never) or work abroad for 2months - but I made some lovely friends! #pttravel

A3 I went to Georgia cos Jim insisted it would be great. He was right (he always is) The variety from nature, art, buildings, ancient history was enough but then the food, which we had never heard of was phenomenol too! #PTTravel

In my lifetime there have been conflicts in places that I go on to visit -South Arica Laos Cambodia Vietnam Grenada Balkans Pakistan India. Sri Lanka Places change & hopeful that will be the case with Iran & Syria so can get todo them too #pttravel A3

Q4 Which places, types of transport, accommodation or kind of travel have you been surprised by as you've travelled? Are there any pre-judgements you've made and why?

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A3: Colombia bk in 2009. Pple just kept banging on bout the FARC& nt getting kidnappd. Went on a salsa tour &attended the World Salsa Festival - hd the time of my life out there. Funny nw its on many SA backpacker trails. Basically its all ebbs & flows to what is ‘safe’ #pttravel

replying to @tweetinghelena @tweetinghelena That's great to hear. I'll be that parent if I have kids! #PTTravel

replying to @5to9traveller @5to9traveller @kate_frankie I LOVED Colombia :-) I came back to school and did a whole assembly on assumptions! #PTTravel

replying to @DawnCorleone @DawnCorleone @kate_frankie I was very lucky to have my first travel experience in East Africa - no wonder I got hooked! #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie My kids have been travelling since they were tiny. Youngest took his first flight at 8 weeks old. I don’t think it’s difficult and opens many doors to see things you wouldn’t usually #pttravel (one example in this post about Berlin https://t.co/PYT6v7qRuH )

replying to @Stromfieldadvs @Stromfieldadvs @kate_frankie So many assumptions. Luckily I paid no mind and knew nothing about history of FARC. What I loved is that I didn’t stand out much anyway as a black women with 1 lady telling me I looked Colombian #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie
@kate_frankie A1 Not me, but my kids. Everyone said we were mad for taking two young kids to New York, but they loved it.

@kate_frankie #pttravel a4 so, the trans-mongolian/trans-siberian railway. Longest in the world. Takes 7 days.
I realised why it takes 7 days when i took it.
It. Goes. So. Freakin. Slow. !!!
Like about 35mph!

replying to @RooLovesTravel A3 People also thought it was very odd that I visited disaster/dark history sites such as Chernobyl, Auschwitz & the Killing Fields. But I like to learn & am fascinated by human nature #pttravel

A4 #PTTravel Tuk-tuks! They're surprisingly comfortable, and not as hair-raising as they look from outside. Also, the 'abra' boats in Dubai.

A4 #pttravel One surprising piece of transportation I encountered was the cable car ride from Hong Kong to Lantau Island. I bought the ticket online & didn’t realize it was going to be almost 30 min up in the air to get there. I would do it again.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A3. No photos handy at the moment but people warned me against Morocco, Egypt, Israel, and Mexico. Those were some of the best trips I’ve ever taken. Funny - the naysayers were all people who’ve never been to any of those places. :) #pttravel
