replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A3: The most memorable hike was in Aoraki, NZ. Very hard but very enjoyable too. I had nice companion and our guide was super. I felt really bad when I heard he died in an avalanche some years later. #PTTravel

A5 Really good shoes/boots. I did one climb in cheap trainer type walking shoes & felt every stone. Also sun cream, hat, waterproof and plenty of water and snacks.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie I've done a few hills barefoot, but most of my hikes are around the foothills rather than over the tops of them.

I did the Pennine Way mostly in closed walking shoes but that was because I'd ripped my toenail off the previous week and it was still healing. #pttravel

Q6 What is/was the best part of climbing a mountain or hill for you and why?

RT @aok_NW: A5 #PTTravel Around here, you’re supposed to carry either a phone or a beacon, so I recommend that. I’d also carry a map, have…

replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @vickyinglis13 @kate_frankie #pttravel Climbed Snowdon by every track except the Llanberis Track. That's just too long and boring. Been up on the train, though, which more or less parallels the Llanberis Track.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A5. Good footwear is important. Something that will support your feet over rough ground. And a map of the area is essential. We don't waymark mountain routes here in the UK, so learning to navigate + understand your map is really important. #PTTravel

replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW That is tragic. So important to prepare and be ready for things changing when you're on the way up or down #PTTravel

replying to @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie The trouble with many one-off hills in the UK is the frequency of gravel trails.

Conversely, rock scrambling I find is much easier barefoot, going uphill at least. #pttravel

A6 #PTTravel Taking your boots off, and getting on the outside of a pint of bitter afterwards. And, maybe, a pie and pea supper?

replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie There's a mountain in Ireland, Croag Patrick, that's traditionally walked in bare feet by pilgrims. #PTTravel

replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW #pttravel I'd carry both! Phone cover in the hills can be a bit spotty, so a neacon, or even a whistle, can be a useful back up.

vickyinglis13

replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie I've done it a few time by going up PYG + down miners, once in reverse + the very first time by doing the horseshoe and finishing by the end of the pipeline. I was just 17 + didn't think that it wasn't the normal route to walk the mountain #PTTravel
