Finding good spots

replying to @Txiki_Tales @Txiki_Tales Wow! Absolutely beautiful. I love to walk too. Really enjoy places I can wander #PTTravel

#pttravel sorry, I got distracted by reading arguments on Wikipedia about what the page on the football club based in Milan that isn't AC Milan should be called.
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Bottle service seems expensive up front, but it can be worth it. Skipping the line, not having to wait at the bar, and having a place to sit down when you're tired is worth it. Plus, with a group it's not that far from buying drinks individually #PTTravel #travelingsession

Q5 Is a good spot changed by over-tourism and why? https://t.co/cSyVQOMa2i
replying to @kate_frankie
@kate_frankie #pttravel A5: .... honestly, I don't know? I tend to not visit those spots in tourist season anyway? That's if any of them I visit could be said to be 'overtouristed'.
I mean, the top of Mam Tor was quite busy but it was a nice day ... :p

A4 Everywhere has something. It can be very different on each trip. Modern/historic, busy city/quiet coastal place, people & culture/wildlife.
What a wonderful world!
replying to @ararewoman @ararewoman @ShahiPalace #pttravel I was rather disappointed with the food on our Golden Circle tour; just lamb rogan josh, chicken curry or paneer everywhere. But, many Indian folk have since said: That was Rajastan! Visit us, and we'll introduce you to some real food!
A5 #PTTravel It’s not fun to deal with big crowds. The Dubrovnik City Wall in Croatia was something I was warned to do as soon as they opened before the cruise ship crowds arrived. This was around 9 AM, not many people yet.

A5 Sure, over-tourism is a problem, but with Venice, for example, it’s possible to walk a few yards and crowds disappear - and you find the more enchanting places…and bargains. #pttravel

@Txiki_Tales oddly, the argument is between "Inter Milan" and "F.C. Internazionale Milano".
"Internazionale" and "Inter" are deemed 'no better than Inter Milan'. #pttravel
A5 #PTTravel Ayia Napa in Cyprus, where I was once told 'You can't be English! You aren't drunk, you're wearing a proper shirt and I don't see any tattoos!' And, I'm old enoughtto remember when it was just a fishing village.
replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW I'm not exaggerating when I say, it put me off Croatia. I went to Montenegro (down the coast) instead. I just didn't want crowds and it was summer. That can change my decision #PTTravel

replying to @Txiki_Tales @Txiki_Tales Also, it empties with the cruise ships leaving. It has a peak time. I got stuck between two tour groups (mega groups) on a bridge. Took much longer to get over. Lots of photos & no consideration for other people 🤦♀️🤷♀️ #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie @aok_NW Split was busy-ish this week. I dread to think what it would be like in high season. #PTTravel

Q6 Which places are you tempted to try that you've heard good things about?
replying to @Txiki_Tales @Txiki_Tales I went to Italy late October early November. The weather was still good, some rain in Rome, but crowds were way down & you could do whatever you wanted. I’d recommend that to anyone looking to go there. #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Last time we were in Málaga, 3 mega cruise ships came in overnight resulting in 10k plus visitors in the Old Town all following ‘umbrella folks’ - time to go elsewhere for me. #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel A6: Portland (Maine, not Oregon). It occasionally comes up in my feeds and ppl rave about it.
replying to @Txiki_Tales @Txiki_Tales @kate_frankie I was in Split on Corpus Christi Day in June. It’s supposed to be a religious holiday, but it was about 25C outside, so most people were at the beach. The crowds really weren’t bad. #pttravel

@NomadKeith Same with the Rhodes I visited as a child. I'm not sure I'd like to see it now.
Its a similar sad/weird feeling when a seaside town struggles in the UK and you remember it thriving.
Am I getting old and jaded?! #PTTravel

replying to @Txiki_Tales @Txiki_Tales I had a changeover in Venice yesterday and walked out of the train station and was shocked at the crowds. When I visited before it was beginning of December and I'd say maybe 10% of the people I saw y'day. Really glad I've experienced it not in peak season 😂 #pttravel

I was at Lara Beach #Turkey in the 80s. They were just paving the street then. You could still spot turtles on the beach. Now it's all full with big hotels. A jewel changed to mass tourism. Many places on earth like this.
A6 #PTTravel Heard good things about the Italian Lakes and the Swiss mountain railways. Seen some pretty tasty documentaries, too.

A5- Overtourism can definitely ruin a spot. Especially when they start catering to tourists and lose the authentic feel.

replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW @Txiki_Tales I think I'd go in shoulder season. It looks fantastic and would still be warm then #PTTravel
