RT @Morology: @kate_frankie Taiwan, and still have a few thousand islands to explore in the Philippines. #pttravel
RT @NomadKeith: A2 #PTTravel Usually, TV programmes or personal recommendation. Sometimes, just throw a dart at the world map on the wall!
RT @JKatzaman: A2 At this point, picking a destination is like throwing darts at a map -- or just spin Google Maps. #pttravel
RT @RTWBarefoot: @kate_frankie #pttravel A2: ...... i don't know? Like, if you take the view 'everywhere is interesting', and you have a pr…
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot #pttravel I have Jim and Flo (not their real names; I believe they do Twitter). Anywhere they recommend is best avoided!

RT @NomadKeith: @JKatzaman #pttravel I forgot the second part. Repeat the exercise until the dart lands somewhere you like!

replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith Borneo 😍 yes! That would be fantastic. I'd love to get back out on proper adventures again #PTTravel
A3 #pttravel When I was in Croatia, I took a last minute day trip into Montenegro, seeing Budva & Kotor City that was a really good day.
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel A3: Bali. I never intended to visit Bali but I accidentally ended up there out of circumstance and it was one of the chillest places I've been.
replying to @JKatzaman @JKatzaman Yes, that would be lovely. I'll shout if I'm close or can easily do a quick de-tour #PTTravel
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot That is interesting. I think I'm leaning towards some too. Takes a lot of logistics planning out #PTTravel
The ferries were such a great way to move around False Creek on our stay in Vancouver. https://t.co/hKWbv5VqaM #PTTravel @FalseCreekFerry @Aquabus
A3 Going back to @longwoodgardens wasn't my idea, but the revived fountains helped make the trip worthwhile earlier this year. #PTTravel

@kate_frankie #pttravel A3: I went to the Grand Canyon on a whim. I wasn't intending to, but I happened to be in the area and there was a convenient shuttlebus from Flagstaff.
Not bad for a hole in the ground.
A3 Lanzarote in August certainly wasn’t planned and Arrecife, the capital was particularly charming. #pttravel
replying to @Txiki_Tales @Txiki_Tales Palma is great. We're booked to go to Mallorca/Majorca (never know which to use 😆) in June next year. Agadir is not somewhere I've thought of & never heard of Koblenz! I'd be keen to know more & look out for your posts #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie
@kate_frankie Yep., Well for me, I tend to like going to ... difficult places (admin, logistics, language, safety, etc). And taking a boat up the Yenisei is probably *much* easier if someone else arranges it :p
And then there's Arab Iraq, of course ... #pttravel
replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW Any parts of South America or Middle East in particular? #PTTravel
A3 #PTTravel Vienna fell a bit flat for me ... I'd been expecting good things from what I'd read about it (mainly fiction, set before the First World War!) But, it seemed to have an air of 'If you need to ask how much, you can't afford it'
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot I've heard you say that before. Sounds interesting. Hard to get to? #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Koblenz is a prize that we won with @VisitGermanyUK - it's been rearranged twice due to the pandemic. I actually won it in November 2019! #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie
@kate_frankie Now they've got an airport, it's simpler. Change in, I think, Cape Town. #pttravel So awkward more than anything else.
Afaik the direct RAF flight from Brize Norton to Falkland stops in Ascension Island not St Helena.
replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith I like the dart at a map. I actually just love scanning maps and searching places after #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Argentina & Peru for sure. Mid East, UAE & Jordan, also the Sild Road. #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie @NomadKeith The likelihood is you'll land in the ocean. #pttravel

Q4 What do you use for research or planning when going to a new place? Do you ask for recommendations?
replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith Combine it with a trip to Bratislava and save the money there after the splurge in Vienna! #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel Inspired by the TV series 'Orang Utan Diaries'. They said if deforestation continues at the current rate. there'll be none left in the wild in 10 years. Then, I found the programmes are 15 years old!
A4 Hours on Google Maps, blogs, travel guides...anything I can get my hands on. #pttravel
replying to @Txiki_Tales @Txiki_Tales Same with the everywhere function on Skyscanner. Where can I fly to? Is it a good deal? Next check hotel prices roughly. Followed by actually looking at the place! #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie
@kate_frankie #pttravel a4: much of my travels are to places few people I know have gone, & those who have, have barely left information about having gone.
Wikitravel. Guidebooks (Bradt, LP).
A4 #pttravel I read travel books, but never feel like I'm getting the whole story. Social Media has been helpful. I used Twitter a lot planning for the Balkans & Facebook has a group called Vietnam Wonders that was a wealth of information about that area of the world.
A4 Typically for a trip, I might research locales. Then I'll ask, "Where do you want to go?" Which is usually the exact opposite. So, that's where we'll go. #PTTravel
replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW I think there are a few places in USA that are intriguing to me because of TV or film. Nowhere more than New York City. So many famous scenes filmed there #PTTravel
A4 #PTTravel Usually, t'Interweb. And, put a call out on social media ... but, avoid those articles that tell me what I 'need to know'!
