replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel A4: ngl, it's one of the reasons I choose to visit the destinations I do. So, there's the independence museums in Timor-Leste and Bangladesh, that give quite a detailed background of the conflict and years of oppressions in either country. But they're not the only ones.

A4 I tend to visit them whenever I find them. This watch is in the Peace Memorial Museum in #Hiroshima which totally changed my mind on war. #pttravel

replying to @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie #pttravel A4: Also, I visited a museum in Chile that had previously been a prison and torture centre under Pinochet. All rather sobering.

A4 #pttravel I’ve been to several. Cu Chi Tunnel in Vietnam stands out. You can actually buy ammunition & shoot a rifle on the shooting ground, but they sold it in a way that was hard to figure out, so we didn’t do it. It would have been fun to say I shot a military rifle there

A4 #PTTravel The Toul Sleng Genocide Museum in Phnom Penh. I couldn't finish the tour; just went and sat in silence for a while. And, I only took one photo; it seemed disrespectful to take more

A4 A few years ago we visited the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. It includes models of things that show the worst that humanity can devise -- if you call the criminals human. #PTTravel

#pttravel A4: also, I've been to this one, in Ethiopia. For similar reasons.

A4 There also is a good war museum in Kiev with many exhibit from Nazis. As a German it felt a bit strange when other visitors realized that I could read German documents and engravings #pttravel

A4 #pttravel I tried to post these earlier, but was having computer problems. This was Arlington Cemetery's changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown. Rediscovered pics from 2000.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A4. The museum of the Gold Coast regiment in Kumasi, Ghana was really interesting. We don't learn colonial history + they were so instrumental to independence from the UK. The Ghanaian army were very involved in African peacekeeping, so I learned a lot about Rwanda too #PTTravel
