A2 #pttravel The closest I’ve been to this was China. Tiananmen Square. We were cautioned not to take pictures of the police & if someone comes along with a “Free Tibet” t-shirt, get out of the way & if you take pics, you will go with them.
RT @RTWBarefoot: @kate_frankie #pttravel A2: ... I mean, probably? I know my taxi driver warned me about some areas when I was on the road…
RT @RTWBarefoot: @kate_frankie #pttravel A2: I've crossed quite a few international borders like that, in all fairness.
A2 #PTTravel On the way to Fort Jesus in Mombasa, we passed through a military barracks ... and the guide walked up and down the aisle chanting 'No photographs! No photographs!' all the way.I'm pretty cautious around military installations, anyway.

@kate_frankie #pttravel A2: There have probably been parts of my trips like that. Not an entire country, tho a few places like that are on my list (DRC, Sudan).
I've been to the Cambodia/Thailand border where I wasn't allowed to photograph the soliders pointing guns at each other ... !

A2 Having been in the Air Force, photography restrictions are not uncommon. You get used to them -- as in, keep your camera at home, and never point it toward the light line. #PTTravel

A2 We once visited the Ramstein military airbase with school incl. the airport. There is a "public" area incl. schools, shops, sports clubs, even a burger king but also a restricted area. The strangest aspect is that it fees like the US although it's in Germany #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A1. Not anywhere with an active conflict, though while I was in Belize many years ago we were warned about approaching the border with Guatemala, as there was a situation that had left an impact on the area. #PTTravel

replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie #pttravel Some stretches of that road are emergency landing strips. therefore 'military land'
replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith @kate_frankie Also, potentially some military roadblocks. #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A1: Nicaragua, Guatemala, Timor, some conflicts happened while in Irian Jaya. there was South Korea (president assassination) and Iran when it went crazy. thinking those last two probably don't count as I was not an actual tourist/traveler. #pttravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2. Yes. I was based in Gibraltar for a summer + we weren't allowed to photograph certain areas. And of course, it's not a wise idea to photograph any military installations wherever you are in the world #PTTravel
replying to @5to9traveller @kate_frankie #pttravel, forgot the tag its been so long!

A2 Yes, quite a few borders and some places in China that are very strict about Government buildings. Airports are often very controlled about use of phones or photography too.
Many places I've travelled have strong military presence
replying to @5to9traveller @5to9traveller @kate_frankie Honestly, "never cross someone in uniform with a gun" is good sense ... #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie I honestly don't know what the most militarised or totalitarian country I've been in is. Discounting China, I mean. #pttravel. Hm. Possibly Belarus for the latter but it was the world ice hockey championships so it didn't feel like it
replying to @vickyinglis13 @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie Many years ago, I flew from Aberdeen to Gibraltar in a Hercules C130. I think it's going to be a bit more plush (and faster) than that. #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2: Kind of hard to think of taking pictures when one is lined up along a wall being patted down, handing over passport and answering why/what the hell one is doing there. ;-) #pttravel
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie There's one in Stanley, so I hope I'll be able to do it after I'm free from quarantine #PTTravel
