Q2 Have you ever used maps or a compass when you travel? If so, were they paper/equipment or an app on your phone?

@kate_frankie #pttravel A2: I use the OS Maps all the time, these days usually on my phone but I do like the paper maps.
I've used compasses but I tend to prefer to use maps and look for distinguishing points. There's always a cairn. :D
A2: I use maps all the time, on my phone. However, when I first started backpacking, back in 2007-2008, I used to rely on paper maps. The first job when I would arrive in a new city was to pass by the touristic office and get a map. #PTTravel

A2 #pttravel Yes, that’s why my phone is so valuable to me. I have both maps & compass. I have been stuck a few times where I have had to look at a map.
A2 #PTTravel Wouldn't venture far from tarmac without them. And, it's got to be paper maps and the good old Silva compass. You really don't want your batteries running out in the middle of the North York Moors!

A2- Before GPS, I used to just fill up my tank and go get lost when I went someplace new. When the tank started to get low, then it was time to break out the maps.
I still like to venture without GPS, but it's too easy to turn it on now.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2. I don’t tend to use paper maps when travelling, and was Pay As You Go for so long that I got used to not using apps either. My navigation style is more sign to sign, or I just make peace with being lost. #PTTravel

A2 I have used a paper map and compass before but I'd like to do that more. Especially hiking. I tend to only do routes that are marked and it would be great to go where I wanted. I'm always using maps on my phone when on trips or for work
A2
I've used the Google Maps map view on my Android device, but have to calibrate the compass first to ensure the desired direction is as accurate as possible
