replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A1: Those old steamers from the 1930/40's that would wander europe or north africa or China. A world of their own you know where Ingrid Bergman would whisper her cabin number in your ear as she left the bar, Robert Mitchum would buy you a shot to up your courage a notch #pttravel

A1 I'd like to do the Silk Road. I also had a look over the past day or two and read about Isabella Bird, a lass from Yorkshire who had some fantastic adventures. Nellie Bly too. Both sound like great explorers

A2- Before GPS, I used to just fill up my tank and go get lost when I went someplace new. When the tank started to get low, then it was time to break out the maps.
I still like to venture without GPS, but it's too easy to turn it on now.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2. I don’t tend to use paper maps when travelling, and was Pay As You Go for so long that I got used to not using apps either. My navigation style is more sign to sign, or I just make peace with being lost. #PTTravel

replying to @findinganeish @findinganeish @kate_frankie in any given local area, I navigate my landmarks. So I know to, eg, turn left at the church, left at the railway bridge, and right at the shop at the end of the road, for one of my runs. #pttravel
