replying to @OanaRoua @OanaRoua One thing I was always advised was, take a business card or something with the hotel's name and address on it, *in the local script*, not just in the latin script, so you can just show it to people if you need to find the way back. #pttravel

replying to @Travel_Session A3- Even with a map, you can easily get turned around in the alleys in 🇮🇹#Venice

replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot I first had to check in to the hotel to be able to get a card. All I knew was the name. I kept stopping random people and ask them, until someone finally knew what I was looking for and took me there, haha #pttravel

replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @findinganeish @kate_frankie #pttravel That's the way we did it in Venice. Memorised the way to our hotel from St. Mark's Square, then if we needed directins, asked to be directed to St Mark's Square, then took it from there/

replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie Yes, landmarks is the other one. If York didn’t have the Minster I’d probably still be there now. #PTTravel

A2 I have used a paper map and compass before but I'd like to do that more. Especially hiking. I tend to only do routes that are marked and it would be great to go where I wanted. I'm always using maps on my phone when on trips or for work

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel up a hill. lots of hills.

This was ... somewhere in Northumberland on the pennine way. I look grumpy cos I'd taken a wrong turn somewhere and the GPS locator on my phone was playing up. And it was a bit damp.

Captain James Cook’s voyage for the Australis Incognita
would interest me because Cook mapped the entire New Zealand coastline with only minor errors, which was a remarkable feat for the time.

A3 I have many funny, scary and weird stories on my travels. One of being lost was not knowing the right building, entrance or lift to take in a city in China. It was a skyscraper & I took the lift I thought was right. Stepped out on floor to completely deserted

kate_frankie

replying to @kate_frankie They had moved. Lift door closed. I couldn't call the lift back because floor isn't in use. Wires hanging from ceiling as I walked to find stairs. Couldn't get through locked door. Panic sets in. Cleaner found me & dragged me to service lift. Bad start to work day! #PTTravel
