Q5 How can we/should we preserve and protect all historic buildings and why?

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel a5 I'm torn about this. On the one hand I'm a historian and the past is important. Otoh I'm efficient amd practical and, as long as we've documented it, histotical buildings are a bit of a waste of space and resource.

A5 #pttravel I think government needs to be involved. They can do fundraisers online now. Visiting the Old North Church in Boston, they brought you in, gave a talk for a few minutes about it’s history, then asked for a donation for upkeep. They also had a gift shop.

A5 I love most historic buildings.
I intensely dislike brutalist architecture.
Would I keep it? Maybe not.
Is it important? Probably.
I can't help thinking that heating and maintaining the massive cathedrals I love is a bit unsustainable.

A5 #PTTravel Probably the best way is repurposing. A good example is the Roundhouse, in Vancouver. They've converted it into a shopping centre, but have still preserved the atmosphere, and devoted a small sector of it to its history
