Nature Reserves

Q1 Which nature reserve that you've visited has been the best for you and why?
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel I'm in Amesbury ... just back from a walk in the nearest reserve. It's just s strip of woodland maybe 150 yds by 50 ... but they call it a reserve.
replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith There are so many small places and real hidden gems that are technically reserves which is great. I believe that gives the land more protection? #PTTravel
A1 #pttravel Most of what I’ve seen was in Africa. It was interesting to see this nature reserve of hippos near Richards Bay, South Africa.

A1 #PTTravel Difficult! Can't think of any which haven't been designated as National or State Parks, SSSIs, NNRs etc. Maybe the Mary Ann Reserve, by the River Murray in Mannum, South Australia?
A1 In Oklahoma there is a nature reserve in the Arbuckle Mountains -- "mountains" in the loosest sense of the term -- that has assorted animals roaming. It's been years, so I don't recall fencing. #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel Technically, it's a piece of MoD land that they refused to sell to developers, so remains in their ownership, and they've designated it a Conservation Area

A1 For me, the Serengeti is hard to beat. I'm so glad I had a few days touring through there. So much to see and it was breathtaking 😍

replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW That is great. I love hearing about places like this reserve. I had no idea of it before #PTTravel

Q2 Share photos of nature reserves and the wildlife found in your home region
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Do they pipe in Circle of Life for background music? #PTTravel
A2 #pttravel The nearest reserve is the Jewell Elk Refuge about an hour away, but if you just wait around, the elk will come see you. These were all taken within a mile of where I live.
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A1. For me it’s Morton Lochs, my local. I found it (or it found me) when I needed nature the most. I’ve since started volunteering there and it’s been more valuable than ever in these Covid times. #PTTravel

It is actually trying to dig a bit deeper and remember smaller places or less well known if they aren't already NPs. I was lazy and went with Serengeti but there are others like areas of the ACT that I went to with locals and saw kangaroos and.

replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW I always love your stories of random Elk sightings. What a great place #PTTravel

A2 #PTTravel A disused railway track near us has been designated a Butterfly Conservation Area. Lots of butterflies!
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie It’s entirely possible to see bear & cougar in this area too. I haven’t had that opportunity yet. #pttravel

We have a place called Washington Wetlands Centre very close. I went as a kid a lot and with school. I really need to go back soon! @WWTworldwide

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel Australian cities are particularly rich in 'reserves' that nobody outside a 10-mile radius knows about. Especially ACT. I believe Burley Griffin said that nobody should be more than a half-hour's walk from one?
replying to @findinganeish @findinganeish Nature is such an incredible remedy. I love your photos. Its been a while since I was in a place with red squirrels. Would be great to visit #PTTravel
A3 #pttravel I’d like to return to Africa, maybe Tanzania or Kenya. I didn’t get to see lions on the first trip. Maybe on a return trip.
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2. It was heartbreaking to see Tentsmuir devastated by last year’s storms, but luckily it doesn’t appear to have affected the residents too much. #PTTravel

A3 #PTTravel Brownsea Island! I haven't seen a red squirrel since the last time I was in Cumbria!
replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith I wholeheartedly agree! We should have little pockets of nature reserves everywhere #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Thanks! And there do seem to be times in your life where you need nature more than others. I highly recommend it. Reds are such great company! #PTTravel
A3 Yellowstone Park is also a nature preserve, which would check off a few boxes. #PTTravel
replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW Suddenly that sounds more dangerous. Folks out there have some fairly big predators around that we just don't see in the UK. Outside of zoos! Very cool. I would want to know how to deal with it if I lived in a place where they roamed #PTTravel
We had so much fun with wine tasting and a horse show ... https://t.co/YN8ssVr4mi on a visit to Casablanca in Chile. #PTTravel @TurisnetCL

replying to @JKatzaman @JKatzaman Here’s a robin chick I took in my garage. I wasn’t sure what was nesting there until I took this picture & found the mother outside having a fit I was looking at her chick. #pttravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie I wouldn’t worry about it here in town, but lots of hiking trails in the hills. Up there you could definitely encounter something. #pttravel
replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith I saw a couple on my travels. Maybe one near Stratford-upon-Avon? I love watching butterflies 🦋 such a delight. I've tried to appreciate moths and other less pretty creatures too. Meadows in Northumberland are where I've spotted these beauties #PTTravel
RT @JKatzaman: A2 This was wildlife in our backyard a few years ago: baby cardinals. #PTTravel https://t.co/82ffLgJsT3
replying to @JKatzaman @JKatzaman Wow! That's amazing. Did you watch their growth and progress? How long was it until they started to fly? #PTTravel
