I'm not sure whether I've mentioned yet but I got the job. I will be Regional Manager for South Asia at Durham University soon. Really looking forward to new challenges.

Q1 May Day used to be an ancient celebration of spring, rebirth, new life. Have you ever been in a place that celebrated? If not, would you usually travel on May holiday and why/why not?

A1 #PTTravel In Primary School, we elected a May Queen, and had a little parade around the village. Teacher wanted to put up a maypole, but the Vicar vetoed it; said it was a 'pagan ritual'

A1 I haven't been to any of the traditional festivals. I'd like to see a May pole dance and any of the other celebrations. I do usually try to travel over bank holidays because you can get a good long weekend. Not this year but less than 7 weeks until I'm away!

A1 #pttravel I have never travelled on May Day. I have done a couple of trips, but later in May. My upcoming US trip will be in a couple of weeks. Around here, Portland & Seattle have celebrations, but I never went.
replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith That's brilliant! I love that. Heathens! 😆 #PTTravel

@kate_frankie #PTTravel We did! I added the sign to the picture because our hotel looked so much like Fawlty Towers!
I emphasise LOOKED ... everything else was fautless!
replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW I keep hearing about Portland recently. I'd never really thought about visiting before but sounds like a good place for a couple of nights. Do you have tomorrow as a national day? #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel That vicar was the reason I'm now (if anything!) a Methodist!
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Nothing official. Over here, it isn’t a official holiday. We do have a Labor Day, but it’s in September. #pttravel
replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith That's great. Devon looks great. I've never been and always thought it was expensive but probably a misconception #PTTravel
replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW Yes, that's right. Its later in the year for the USA #PTTravel

@kate_frankie #pttravel aaaagh I was distracted by dead railway stations near Dundee, and forgot what the time was!
I've travelled at this time, but coincindentally, not because it's a Bank Holiday. Often when Easter's been really late so there's several bank holidays in a row.
A1 As far as I know, #MayDay isn't a big observance in the States. The only references I heard is how it relates to fertility celebrations. #PTTravel

A2 I feel like celebrating the light every year. Its harder to get up early during winter but makes a huge difference when we hit spring.
I also just love nature and watching seasons change. I'm still in awe when I travel to see the wonderful landscapes
A2 #pttravel I just like the longer days & warmer weather along with sunsets from my deck. The Pacific Coast rarely gets hot, two or three times through the summer.

@RTWBarefoot Why hello! I think its quiet today because everyone is enjoying a long weekend and fairly nice weather.
I'm trying not to book a weekend away and save money for a good fortnight off to Spain in a few weeks. Its hard and tempting though #PTTravel

A2 #PTTravel A friend organises tours in the woods near where she lives; because she thinks around now, the birdsong is at its best. Not been yet, though. I'd need to get up at silly o'clock. and drive 15 miles!
A2 Spring or summer is marked by the ritual passing of the sunburn ointment. #PTTravel
replying to @kate_frankie
@kate_frankie I am away at the end of this month but I'm not quite sure where yet as it depends largely on other people. #pttravel
I did take advantage of it not raining today and went for a 7¾ mile walk through suburbia.
replying to @JKatzaman
@JKatzaman I wonder if it was European originally? I know it has Pagan roots.
Incidentally, I watched the film Midsommar not long ago, which is a thriller. I don't know that it made me feel joy and happiness about those festivals 😳😬 #PTTravel

replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie Bonus points if you did it barefoot. #PTTravel
replying to @JKatzaman @JKatzaman @kate_frankie hahaa. I did not, because some of the pavements here are very knobbly, but my walking sandals are falling apart so I might as well have done :D #pttravel
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot Have we ever had that conversation?! I feel like I need more of that story #PTTravel
replying to @EvansKerry @EvansKerry I've been seeing a lot of blossom in suburbia this past week, not so much on the bluebell front but I suspect I'm in the wrong part of the area for it. #pttravel

Q3 International Workers Day or Labour Day is also celebrated today. Thank you to all those who work and have worked worldwide. When you get a day off like this holiday, what do you like to do and why?
