I'm near Durham, England. Just back from Darlington.
Week has been good and weekend really nice

Q1 Where have you been that you stayed for one night and why were you there?
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel A1: okay, so, many of my adventures have me staying one night in a particular place, before then heading on somewhere different the next day. It's just what I do. :) But I don't think that's what you mean .... lemme think ...
replying to @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie #pttravel A1: I've certainly had one night in places because of business trips (exciting places like Rotherham and Bolton). I've also had one night in places because I've been away for a weekend meeting friends or whatnot.
A1 #PTTravel Not very often these days; recent ones a concert in Birmingham and an ice show in Brighton. But, when I was working, I did it often ... especially if there were a few beers involved & I had to drive home!
replying to @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie #pttravel (you don't need to know about the whatnot)
A1 #pttravel If I do go overnight, it’s a regional trip. Baseball at @TMobilePark , University of Washington, Oregon State University, home of 3 National Championships & 2017 eclipse in Eastern Oregon.

A1 I actually went to Leuven, Belgium very early (flight just before 5am) then stayed overnight and came home late afternoon the next day.
Also, lots of one night stays in UK. Darlington, Sheffield, Northumberland, York, Edinburgh, Liverpool, London.
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A1. In Tallinn, Estonia. You take a ferry, spend a day and have a nice evening with a good dinner. Then stay overnight and next morning go to Spa and have a great breakfast and take a ferry back to Helsinki. #pttravel

@kate_frankie On my Inter-Rail Trip in Autumn 2019 I think I overnighted in eight different *countries* on successive days. #pttravel
And yes, on my big Hike that summer I think there were only about five instances across 57 days where we had sucessive nights in the same spot.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie One of my friends from IRC days flew from San Francisco to Paris, stayed one night, and then flew back. (It was for a concert). So, YMMV. #pttravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie @TMobilePark I don’t remember if I mentioned it or not. I waited 40 years to see it, so I went somewhere where I knew I would have a clear sky & not too many people. All considering, it went well. #pttravel
A2 #PTTravel If you really want/need to go, you'll find a way. In that case, the other factors will be secondary
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A related question is: "how far do you have to be from home in order to be able to justify overnighting for one night elsewhere?". In my case it's 12 miles, I *think*. #pttravel

A2 #pttravel My feeling is if you want to see it, it’s worth it. An overnight trip inside a larger trip was when I flew from Singapore to KL, Malaysia to see the Petronas Towers. I thought that was worth the extra cost.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Q2 Yes. Tallinn e.g. from 🇫🇮 point of view is 2hours away, it is cheap, lots of good restaurants, nice hotels and spas and the athmosphere is more Central European than it is in Finland. Ferry tickets are very cheap, return 20€. Going to visit there again next weekend. #pttravel
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie #pttravel Yes: I was once invited to an event at one of our heritage railways. I'd have loved to go, but couldn't justify driving 120 miles for a lunch and a train ride.
