@vickyinglis13 @kate_frankie My resemblance to a traffic light attracted rather more small flying and crawling things than I'd've ideally liked.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Claude Monet's gardens and house at Giverny, on the edge of Normandy. #Pttravel
A1 #pttravel Anything I saw on TV. We didn’t go anywhere growing up. I had a father who didn’t believe in travel, so I didn’t see outside of the PNW until I was almost 30. I’ve been making up for it though.
A1 #PTTravel Treasure Island, the Coral Island and the Hornblower books. Later on, it was the 'India' books of John Masters.

@kate_frankie #pttravel a1 ugh i don't know? Like, i read maps and encyclopaedias and guide books about places i never thought I'd go, so i was always open to it.
Watched travelogues like Alan Whicker and, later, Michael Palin, but the seeds were already sprouty.
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot One of my favourite artists ❤️ it looks/ sounds like you've had a great trip #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel remarkably fewer water lillies than you might expect.
replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW I think that's true for a lot of people. Its not always accessible or encouraged. I was lucky. We did mostly UK or small trips to Europe until I was in my teens. My parents loved seeing new places and took us to Egypt when I was 14 #PTTravel

Q2 Did you ever watch a tv show, film or read a book that inspired travel? Tell us about it (may link to Q1)

A2 #pttravel I saw 'Lawrence of Arabia' when it first came out. Many years would pass before I actually visited Jordan, but it didn't disappoint!
A2 #pttravel I first learned about the Leaning Tower of Pisa watching an episode of the TV show Bewitched. After that, I wanted to see it myself. I finally got that wish in 2009.
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel a2: side note. We always used to watch TV programmes like 'Wish You Were Here', and 'Holiday [insert two-digit year]', but we, I, was never attracted to resort/beachfront hotels in the sun even then.

A1 Nature docus, history programmes and learning about the Amazon and ancient Egypt at school. @AttenboroughSir has been a massive influence and the driving force behind going to #Antarctica 🐧❤️

replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith Another question I thought about was did it live up to expectations? Good to hear that Jordan did. I would love to visit #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A1. I used to love reading the big Reader's Digest atlas of the world at my grandparents house, + I'd use it to look up the places he travelled in the Navy. I was also obsessed with David Attenborough documentaries, then Michael Palin's travels. #PTTravel
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie #pttravel Nor me! There was always a chance you'd run into Judith Chalmers or Anneka Rice!
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot I vaguely remember some of those shows. I always much preferred the exploration and different cultures on docus than the beach resort shows #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2. My biggest disappointment in travel was not being able to visit the lighthouse from Round the Twist while I was in Australia a few years ago. We sailed by + saw it from a distance, but it's just not the same #PTTravel

Q3 Share photos of places that you've visited because of a travel film, book or famous journey
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Yeh, I mentioned Whicker's World in Q1, a programme i only vaguely remember, but that was more that kind of thing. #pttravel definitely not a holiday show.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel It depends on how you go. We were on a private tour, but I've heard of folks who've travelled with a larger group, who complained they didn't spend long enough in any one place.

A2 Sleepless in Seattle and other movies of the 90s made me want to visit the USA. We very much loved New York City and it did live up to the hype
A3 #pttravel I once wanted to find the filming location of the movie Weekend at Bernie’s. I was in Wilmington, NC & drove to a place called Bald Head Island. It’s mostly game reserve, but there are some upscale houses there & looked very much like the movie.
