Q4 How do you get oriented in a place far from home and what are the first things you do?

A4 #PTTravel I will find out if the city I’m arriving in has a walking tour available. It helps me learn the city & I find out thing I wouldn’t know otherwise.

A4 #PTTravel Long or short haul; first call is at the TIC, maybe a museum. Then, see if there's a 'hop-on/hop-off' bus tour.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Joining late as usual! A4 I like being disorientated! I love culture shock. I seek out the different and take a walk around & plan first ‘must sees’. And food! Find local food! #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A4. After a long-haul journey I need to stretch. It doesn’t matter what time of day or night, even if it’s just a lap of the hotel, I need to get some fresh air, decompress and see a bit of the area. #PTTravel

A5 #PTTravel My wife's making noises about South Africa. And, I'd like to see more of Australia and S.E. Asia. We already have Costa Rica booked, and money set aside for Borneo next year.

A6 #PTTravel Have you ever flown a long distance before? I would try flying somewhere nearby just to make sure you can handle flying. It was something I did early on. If you go, make sure you have things to occupy your time.

findinganeish

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A6. I think the last few years have taught us not to wait. Circumstances will never be exactly right, you just have to go where you can, when you can. #PTTravel

replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW Yes to walking tours. I've had some great ones with locals in the past #PTTravel

A6 #PTTravel Take plenty of snacks and water. The airlines usually provide these, but some are better in this respect than others. Well-stocked Kindle and a sleep mask are almost essential, too

RooLovesTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A6 Be clear about how long the flights are & plan how to make use of the time. Ensure you have time to adjust to new timezones & rest once home. Enjoy experiencing new cultures! #pttravel

replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith Museums can be a great way to learn about the place. I like some of the smaller, niche ones too. There is an absinthe museum in Prague for example. Buses with hop on hop off passes are a great way to see landmarks #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel Sometimes, they're even better that the TICs. I always advise visitors to Amsterdam their first call should be at the Amsterdam Historical Museum.

kate_frankie

replying to @findinganeish @findinganeish I totally get that too. I usually do some yoga and have a walk #PTTravel
