@NomadKeith Last time I went to Paris, I stayed in a hotel that wasn't even in Paris. It was *just* across the border in Saine-Saint-Denis.
Metro stop was across the next street. #pttravel

@kate_frankie #pttravel the house i own is 12 miles out of Nottingham City Centre and the last bus is at Midnight. Is cheap.
Though I suspect, given it took nearly an hour to get home, that'd be a bit *too* far.

A4 I've stayed further out of a city when its got great transport. Many European cities are very well set up with trains, underground and trams

Q5 Would you take a standing ticket on a train, bus (or plane hypothetically) in future in order to get a bargain or extra benefits?
replying to @Txiki_Tales @Txiki_Tales #pttravel Once booked a coach trip to see an Andre Rieu concert in Maastricht, Our hotel, allegedly 'just outside Maastricht'. was near as dammit in ... BRUSSELS!
A5 #PTTravel This is the one thing I won’t compromise on. When I board transportation, I want a seat. If I have to pay extra to reserve a seat I’ll do it.
A5 #PTTravel Second word of my answer would be 'off'. If practicable, I like to travel by National Express, who guarantee you a seat.
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel most bus (not coach!) tickets and all walk-on train tickets don't guarantee you a seat, they just allow you passage, at least here in the UK. So, I doubt the question would arise for the most part? I never go onto trains expecting a seat, even if I've booked in advance!

replying to @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie Would I stand on a plane? Yes, because it's gotta be more comfortable than some of those seats. #pttravel Legroom!
replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW I thought I paid for a seat in Thailand once, all seats taken. I didn't want to wait for the next bus so floor was my place. Slightly uncomfortable and around 3-4 hours. Wouldn't recommend #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie No, when I travel I prefer to be based centrally. I don’t mind a small, basic room, though #PTTravel
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie #PTTravel I believe Ryanair suggested a sort of backboard, to accommodate standing passengers. I think the CAA put the mockers on that one fairly quickly!

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie The biggest compromise would probably be accommodation. It takes a lot to get me camping and I’ve avoided hostels for more than a decade. I need my own room and a proper bed #pttravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie That happened to me in Germany once. I had reserved a seat & a woman got there before I did & she wasn’t going to move. Thankfully there was an off duty train worker there. He looked at my ticket & agreed that was my seat. She disappeared…fast. #pttravel

replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot True, although seat reservations do exist for trains and coaches. I think its coming for flights. #PTTravel

Q6 Would you compromise on food and drink on a trip (less or very cheap) in order to do/see more? Why/why not?
RT @JKatzaman: A5 I've done short-term standing on commuter trains. That was plenty. #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie I've had many a seat reservation on a train that ... hasn't existed because when the train comes, it's had fewer carriages than they planned so they cancelled all the reservations. #pttravel
RT @RTWBarefoot: @kate_frankie What we need maybe is misericords! #pttravel https://t.co/WQyjTAFCqv
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Yes, I try to save on accommodation, to a point. I don’t mind a basic hotel room, but I don’t do hostels and am keen to avoid camping #pttravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel A6: I often don't eat when I'm exploring a town because I'm too busy exploring the town so I forget.
A6 #PTTravel Again I usually don’t spend much on food & drink, so no, this would not be a problem.

A6 All the time. I do think that some fine dining has the ‘emperor’s new clothes’ about it and not worth anything approaching the price. Give me local street food any day of the week. #pttravel

A6 #PTTravel Certainly not! Although, having said that, local fare is often surprisingly cheap. What creeps me out is the 'half board syndrome' where people pig out at breakfast, so they don't need any lunch.
