I am hosting from the North East of England, near Durham.
I finished a 7.5 mile run (with a few brisk walks in the middle) today and tge littlest member of the family was happy to see Newcastle United win yesterday. I've told him not to get too excited.

Q1 What are your memories of summer trips or summer activities when you were growing up?
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel A1: my parents would always go spend a week or two weeks in a self-catering cottage somewhere, usually in Scotland. They used it as a 'base' to go round the local area, which usually involved ruined castles.
A1: I was lucky to grow up in a country where summer holidays meant 3 months of school. I used to spend the entire summer with my grandparents, and two weeks at the seaside, with my parents. I still remember the highlight of each beach day was the chupa chups 😂#PTTravel

@RTWBarefoot I will ache tomorrow. Building up to a 10 miler in the next couple of weeks so I'm on track for GNR in September.
You look like you're effortlessly gliding along there 🏃 #PTTravel

A1 #pttravel We didn’t take summer trips. My father didn’t believe in travel. Myself, I didn’t do any significant travel until I was 30. My first trip to Europe took place at 40. I still don’t do a lot of summer travel because of crowds.
RT @NomadKeith: A1 #PTTravel Summer camps with the Scouts and the Air Training Corps.
replying to @kate_frankie
@kate_frankie that was the end of lap one. So still two more laps of mostly hills to go. :D

I really want to do GNR one day. But this is not the year for that. Good luck :) Glad training's going well.

A1 My memories are of a two week trip to coincide with the annual works shutdown, initially to North & Mid Wales, then to Dorset, then the Channel Islands - we got steadily more adventurous! #PTTravel

replying to @Txiki_Tales @Txiki_Tales heh. We surprisingly *never* went to the Isle Of Man despite it being Just Over There. #pttravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A1. We used to go camping a lot in Australia, while in Germany we’d go on road trips across the Continent. Very happy memories indeed. #PTTravel
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot I’ve never been although my dad used to go there a lot. He was born in Allonby in Cumbria and so I guess you could see the IOM on a clear day. 😉 #Pttravel

A1 Summer trips growing up were usually camping. Scotland, Lake District or Yorkshire. Some of them seemed endless and involved a lot of playing games, riding bikes and going to the beach if one was nearby.
I also remember Spain or France some years
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @Txiki_Tales #pttravel My Dad and my two uncles were all motor-bike freaks, so we couldn't not go to the IoM!

replying to @Txiki_Tales @Txiki_Tales I grew up in Liverpool. There's a feckin' *ferry*! It'd've been easier than Scotland! We went to Cornwall one year and western Ireland another! #pttravel
replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith @RTWBarefoot @Txiki_Tales My dad took us one year for the boats and bikes. Definitely a holiday for him but it is a great place so no complaints #PTTravel
replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith @RTWBarefoot The closest I ever got was driving a Ginetta sports car to Liverpool ferry terminal to hand it over to one of our racing drivers who was taking it over for a feature on Top Gear Australia! #pttravel
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel We always used the same caravan site. We used to take bets on whether we'd get a converted bus, a railway carriage or a 'real' caravan!
replying to @findinganeish @findinganeish Great photo and those memories are fab too. Cool childhood of travels #PTTravel

Q2 Which countries have you visited during their summer season and what was your experience?
replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Thanks! Yeah, my brother and I were very lucky to have so many bases and parents who loved to explore. #PTTravel
A2: I don't like travelling in summer, especially around Europe because it's too crowded. I have visited quite a few countries in summer and the experience was always similar: overpriced and too many people. #PTTravel
A2 #pttravel We usually avoid high summer ... but we were in Rio at the height of their summer. To be fair, we saw quite a lot ... but were absolutely shattered at the end of the day!
replying to @kate_frankie
@kate_frankie I tend to not go away during Actual Summer because admin, cost, convenience, etc. I'm sure it must have happened, probably France when I was dating someone who lived there.
Yes, I've dated people. It's happened. Scary, innit. #pttravel
A2 #pttravel Croatia & Vietnam were the only trips I did in the summer months, both June. Vietnam was scorching hot, especially Hanoi. Croatia was warm. I was there on Corpus Christi Day which is a big Catholic holiday. Almost everyone was at the beach.
replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW Summer crowds are something I will usually avoid. I will avoid for as long as I can! Flights and accommodation are much better in terms of deals at other times too #PTTravel
A2 It might sound a bit daft but I’ve been to Seville twice in the mad, bad heat of high Summer and loved it. Figured if I can take the heat there, I could take it just about anywhere. #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2. My main memories are of Christmas camping in Australia, kids’ clubs in Bali, burning sand in Italy and undercooked eggs in Bavaria. #PTTravel
replying to @Txiki_Tales @Txiki_Tales @RTWBarefoot #pttravel I once met an old gent who raced a Morgan 3-wheeler across there in the early 30s. He didn't do badly; he came in third!
replying to @RTWBarefoot
@RTWBarefoot Hahaha to that last part. Behave, you!
I would usually only go for someone else if it was summer. Or a festival. It wouldn't be my first choice of timing #PTTravel
