A1 #pttravel Typically I’ll start planning about 3 months before I go. I’ll start with airfare & plan around that. I will try to spread out payments over that 3 months. That usually works well.

RTWBarefoot

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel a1: *traditionally* my expenses have been far less than my income, so while I've not 'saved', I've accrued money by default.

Conversely, I don't own credit cards, so can only spend what I can afford. My trips tend to be one-offs, booked 'at that time'.

A1 #PTTravel We have a separate bank account, into which we pay a monthly sum to cover standing orders, etc. ... and anything left over is 'travel money'. Surprising how quickly it builds up; esp. as we haven't really travelled since 2019.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A1. Always save first, then spend what I have. It's taken me a while to build up the money, but I've got an exciting trip booked for next spring. Definitely not a bargain though #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel a2: i tend to spend less on accommodation. Because all I need is a bed; I'm likely to be out-and-about so don't need fancy extras like a restaurant or gym etc. Even a private bathroom isn't necessary.

I splurge on beer. Apparently.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2: We splurge on food and drink for 1 meal of the day, but skip breakfast and self cater for other meals. Cafes, bars and restaurants, and people-watching are what we enjoy while travelling (and in life). so that's where our money goes! #PTTravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A1. I tend to book over three months, using one wage for flights, one for accommodation and one for spending money. #PTTravel

NomadKeith

A2 #PTTravel I don't scrimp on food or accommodation.
Maybe scope out cheaper means of getting there, if it isn't too far away.

RTWBarefoot

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel a2: actually, I'm more likely to splurge on 'experiences'. Which is why I'm there, largely.

I'm also less likely to splurge on travel. Although my close friend has now banned me from taking the overnight megabuses between Glasgow and London.

A2 #pttravel I’ll usually go frugal on hotel rooms since I only need it to sleep & wi fi. If I splurge, it will probably be on the experience itself. I may hire a day tour to make things easier for me. I do have one morning tour lined up in Barcelona next week.

RTWBarefoot

replying to @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie #pttravel as an aside, it slightly irks me that Ryanair is cheaper than overlanding. I had a really great idea to overland to #Traverse22 in Brno. Then I looked at prices, and decided not to. :D

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2. If I can take the budget option for travel + accommodation I will, then spend on a nice meal or experience. I made a vagabond trip to the Isle of Wight, walking the coast, swimming in the sea + wild camping, but eating in lovely restaurants with my savings #PTTravel

replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW #pttravel I'm like that on cruise ships. Since I only use the cabin for sleeping and changing clothes, the 'class' matters not.

A1. Usually the flight has to be paid for upfront but for hotels usually use https://t.co/pM5iWP66IZ so that only has to be paid on arrival.

A2: I usually splurge on food. I am a big foodie and I love to try the local dishes. I would compromise on hotels, I am not fusses on where I sleep as long as there is a bed and a clean private bathroom. #PTTravel
