A3 #pttravel Vietnam was full of great deals, after being told not to book at the Dubrovnik Hilton. I actually got a really good deal from them, I found another hotel deal at a hotel 20 minutes from Venice, I found a good hotel deal my first weekend in Turkey close to here.

replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW Hilton has great deals if you are a member. I always use them for airport hotels. I used to have my own corporate account with the one in Gatwick because of how often I used to stay there 😂 #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A3. I’m not sure there are cheap destinations. Most “value for money” destinations require you to spend before you can save. I just do the trips I want to but on whatever budget I can do. #PTTravel

I travel when I can and its what I choose to spend extra cash on

replying to @findinganeish @findinganeish @kate_frankie it may depend on your starting point. Someone from the UK would have a different definition of 'cheap' to someone from the USA, or Switzerland. #pttravel

A4: I am very flexible with dates and times, which helps a lot. I usually just look on skyscanner or google flights, to find the cheapest flights. When you are flexible you can get some really good deals. Like a £17 return flight to Rome #PTTravel

A4 #pttravel It was a computer glitch. I was going to New York & checking airfares. I got a round trip on Delta Airlines for $100. That’s the only time I cashed in on one of those.

replying to @tucano2 @tucano2 #pttravel We did one such in Alaska. Our minibus called at exactly the same places as the cruise company's coach tour ... at half the price! We've since advised everyone ... 'In Ketchikan, get off the ship and ask for Shirley!'

replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie Very true, though I’d still argue that wherever you’re starting from, international travel is rarely ‘cheap’ - ESPECIALLY if you have to spend a night in Edinburgh before you fly. #PTTravel

vickyinglis13

replying to @NomadKeith @NomadKeith @kate_frankie Exactly, though for the last few years my budget was quite a bit smaller. I'd try to peg travel to big trips for work or volunteering to make the most of the opportunity #PTTravel

RTWBarefoot

replying to @findinganeish @findinganeish @kate_frankie yhe, living in Glasgow makes it cheaper for me to fly to Poland than get to London by means other than the aforementioned megabus. #pttravel

replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @findinganeish @kate_frankie #pttravel I prefer 'inexpensive' to 'cheap'. My friend in the Netherlands told me an old Dutch proverb:

'If it's cheap, I can't afford it'

(Mind you, he was trying to sell me some high-range sports equipment at the time! 😂)

Q5 Which country have you found the hardest to budget in and is there anywhere you think will be too expensive and need tips?

replying to @vickyinglis13 @vickyinglis13 @RTWBarefoot @kate_frankie Ha! I did get one steal flying Norwegian to Providence (just outbound though, annoyingly) but I’ve struggled to find workable routes since. #PTTravel

RTWBarefoot

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel a5: what i'd be interested to know is, is it harder to budget if you can only use cash and not a card? Or vice versa - if you can only use a card? The former requires a bit more planning and angst, the latter it's just so easy to overspend.

A5 #pttravel I absolutely enjoyed Singapore, but it was an expensive place to visit & I did have some money put away prior to planning that one. It was worth the trip.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie We take the budget option of hotels if we can (to a point) and eat supermarket food or picnics rather than eat in restaurants so we can spend more on the sights/tours. #pttravel

A5 #pttravel Probably Norway! First time I went there (1988) was on a coach from Germany. Last action before we left Denmark on the ferry was load several slabs of Carlsberg on to the bus! And, those who smoked, stocked up on tobacco!
