I'm hosting from home. We've been celebrating my parent's Ruby Wedding Anniversary (40 years)

Q1 Do you usually take more short travel breaks or once in a few years a longer break or sabbatical and why?

replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW We are having a pretty overcast day today. Typical public holiday weekend weather! #PTTravel

A1 #PTTravel As COVID continues to go away, I have been doing two trips per year two weeks in length. I’m planning to do something in October after the high season has ended.

@aok_NW I haven't got back into the swing of organised/planned travel yet. Its been a bit last minute and I don't have a personal trip for this year. Autumn or winter would be good.
Where are you thinking of going? #PTTravel

#PTTravel Chat
A1 In my twenties, I'd leave work and take off for big breaks of a year. In my thirties, its been shorter breaks but more of them.
Since the pandemic, I haven't planned very well. I'm still leaving it late to decide on annual leave and travel. Needs to change!

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie I’m split right now between Egypt & Dubai. I did some reading on Dubai last week & found out the flights are pretty easy from Oregon. That may be where I end up. #pttravel

Q2 Have you got retirement plans? Do you plan to travel when you aren't working and why/why not?

replying to @aok_NW @aok_NW How long is the trip? You could do both. I'm sure Dubai would fly to Egypt. Big transport hub for connecting flights #PTTravel

A2 #PTTravel I’m retired two years this weekend. It was always a goal to do two trips/year. I’ve been able to do that so far. Probably not much more than that.

replying to @kate_frankie
@kate_frankie Oh.
Like. I took a career break in 2014, then in 2018 when i finally got redundancy, I travelled a lot, but it's not something I make a habit of.
#pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #pttravel no. I'm basically waiting for my mother to die.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie Probably two weeks. I need to research that some more. It probably wouldn’t be until late October. #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2 Not yet, although I'll get my state pension in a couple of years. It would be good if I could afford to spend the winter travelling...#pttravel.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A1: We usually do 1 or 2 x one or two-month-long trips per year. And then the rest are just short weeks here or there. We used to do 16+ weekenders per year and 1 or 2 2-week trips when we worked 9-5. But now we are more flexible (I freelance, Roy is retired) #PTTravel

#PTTravel
A2 I do wonder what retirement will look like in 30 years. Give or take, that's what I've got left. Maybe I could do earlier.
I want to still be able to enjoy travel when I get to it. Work longer but drop to part-time? Pay off house quicker?

#PTTravel Chat
Q3 Share photos of breaks you've taken during the day or on a couple of days in the week/weekend to mentally switch off

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A1 I've taken longer trips in the past sand might do it again some time. I had one trip of 3.5 years and I've also done some 3 month trips. I've had a couple of short trips so far this year and will probably have another one in September/October. #pttravel

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie A2: I prefer to travel lots while I'm young (ish). My husband is retired, and we are doing all the big exhausting trips now rather than later! We have a lot of older friends and their energy doesn't let them travel as much. GO NOW! #PTtravel

replying to @kate_frankie
@kate_frankie #pttravel i went for a walk today.
I went for a walk yesterday too but i deleted those pics off my phone.

replying to @kate_frankie @kate_frankie #PTTravel A1: My company has pretty much shut the door in sabbaticals. Post-covid, I managed to get four months, but can’t see that happening again soon. But I can still do a month at least once a year, plus some shorter trips, so doing pretty well.

replying to @kate_frankie
@kate_frankie I mean there's a reasonable temporary influx of alcohol but in general, we are 63% water.
Being British, the majority is rainwater #pttravel
