Q3: Danger, Will Robinson. What types of terrain and geographic locations have the most hazards in your opinion, irrespective of season? #NationalParks #parkchat

replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer A3 #ParkChat My first thought is the desert: crazy hot temps, crazy cold temps, shortage of water, and plants that want to hurt you!

replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer A3) The desert. Even in winter, you can run into all sorts of hazards like scorpions, snakes, cacti, and oh yes, running out of water with none around. The hazards multiply with the summer. #Parkchat

replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer A3 Probably something with unseen crevices. I'd hate to be walking along and then fall into a hole or watch my fellow hikers falling in. Or avalanches (and not the kind that play hockey). #parkchat

replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer A3) Given my mobility issues, any type of unstable & rough terrain can be a hazard to me. #ParkChat

A3. As Ed Abbey memorably put it, everything in the desert wants to kill you. Although I agree with @GPJohnston about winter in the #PNW. Not for amateurs. #ParkChat

replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer A3. Every type of terrain has its own set of hazards. Boreal Forest is one I’m most familiar with, fortunately no ticks or snakes (yet) #ParkChat

replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer #parkchat A3 the tetons are pretty dangerous unless you are properly trained to climb them

replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer A3 Large rivers can be pretty dangerous throughout the year, as can the upper reaches of large volcanoes #parkchat

replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer #parkchat A3 mountains over 12K feet. Still have snow all year, chance for avalanches, altitude sickness, hard to access for rescue crews.
