replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer Well when New Mexico was my local “haunt” we were always on the lookout for the mythical Chupacabra. #ParkChat Don’t have them in #Missouri

RT @ParksandPoints: @last_adventurer A10) Most superstitions and myths are based around actual conditions or elements, so it might be wise…

replying to @tabbsbetrippin @tabbsbetrippin @BarnetteJason @ParksandPoints @unconpeace @coasthikergirl @last_adventurer @RickSteves We did 60+ miles in various parks inc Badlands and Glacier in FiveFingers one summer. my knees never felt better. my toes were bruised though. I’m always looking up at the scenery instead of at the trail. #ParkChat

replying to @coasthikergirl @coasthikergirl @last_adventurer A10. I was thinking of Sasquatch, of course, but also of the Stawamus Chief and of D'zonokwa. Those layers of history add depth and meaning to the on-trail experience. #ParkChat

Q11. Ok, tell all. What’s your worst fear on the trail? Hazard and all. #ParkChat

replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer A8 Yes, I have done trail maintenance.
However, I do enjoy the joys of unmaintained trails, including the hazards. I am becoming increasingly in favor of minimal maintenance techniques that have minimal impact & which don't seek to eliminate every minor hazard. #parkchat

replying to @WildWithinHer @WildWithinHer @last_adventurer What’s D’zonokwa??? I didn’t know there was a good legend attached to the Chief (of course there would be…) #parkchat

replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer I’d love to be a backcountry ranger for this reason. I’m usually more on the interp side, but I hike trails in the parks I’m at off duty partially for this reason - and partially to learn more about the park to help recommend more appropriate outings for people. #ParkChat

replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer A6 my partner has all the good stories, all involving travels with his dad. Canoeing on Ross Lake, @NCascadesNPS, a storm came up and blew each canoe in a different direction. Canada, Bowron Lakes, a moose charged and flung about his Grumman canoe.

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute #parkchat A11 losing one of my kids. You know, turn around and they are gone. I run the mountain lion attack scenario thru my head before every hike in the #blackhills. My 11yo would be fine if lost. My 7yo would not. 😭

replying to @coasthikergirl @coasthikergirl @last_adventurer I'm mixing two stories. There are interpretive signs about the story of the Chief--I'll look it up and tell you when we talk tomorrow. D'zonokwa is Northwest Coast, wild woman of the woods. Cautionary tale for children about straying too far in the forest. #ParkChat

replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer A9 Where available, talk to a ranger. In many cases that's not possible. Get a trail map. Read the rules. Follow the rules. The preserve I volunteer at has a rule -- no dogs. If it says no dogs -- no dogs. Finally, stay on the trail. Unseen hazards could be lurking. #parkchat

replying to @tabbsbetrippin @tabbsbetrippin @WildWithinHer @ParksandPoints @unconpeace @coasthikergirl @last_adventurer @RickSteves @XeroShoes I've seen people wearing the five finger shoes and trail sandals. I'm not talking about those. I'm talking about bonafied flip flops and flat-bottomed open-toed shoes. I see those on the trail a LOT. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A11) Believing someone else review of the trail, I made this error at Isle Royale National Park when the Intern said that the nature trail was easy but with the exposed rocks & roots it was a bit difficult with my mobility issues. #ParkChat
