Unpaved Roads
ParkChat

Q3. What’s your most memorable experience on an unpaved road in our public lands? #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A3: Getting stuck in a foot of mud in the dark near Boundary Peak, Nevada. Luckily, a local farmer was able to pull us out with his truck (you didn't day it had to be a good memory) #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A3. I absolutely loved camping right on the Buffalo National River in Arkansas! A little tough to get to but worth it! 👍 #ParkChat

A3 This is a toughie! Maybe my first time on Burr Trail in Utah? I'll never forget all of us in awe, but terriffied, at the top of the switchbacks! #parkchat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A3) Somewhat embarrassing one. I somehow completely missed the (huge) Roosevelt Arch my first time visiting Yellowstone and turned right instead of left. Ended up on some random road looking at the pronghorns and finally thought, "Uhh, I don't think this is the park." #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A3) I did a late November afternoon Jeep tour in Sedona, I advise not to wear shorts because its cold in the shade of the rock formations there. #ParkChat

A3 Camping in Solis 2 on River Road. I would hazard there were no other humans for at least 20 miles. I have never experienced such amazing quiet. #parkchat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A3 Probably happened on the unpaved portion on the @DenaliNPS road. Of course, I wasn’t driving. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A3 Going to Tomboy ghost town above Telluride, CO. Had to cross Imogene Pass with snow banks above the truck. Got out and walked at one point because it was so hairy. Road ends in Ouray. #ParkChat

RT @59NationalParks: @Wild_Tribute A3 Probably happened on the unpaved portion on the @DenaliNPS road. Of course, I wasn’t driving. #ParkCh…

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A3: Back country camping in @DeathValleyNPS! You don't need a permit as long as you travel certain roads and camp at least 8 miles from a paved road/developed area. We drove through soft sand and round huge boulders until we found the perfect site about 12 miles in. #ParkChat
A3- Titus Canyon Rd @DeathValleyNPS is another great high-clearance vehicle road. #ParkChat

A3 I'm going with the aforementioned Spiral Jetty road - I believe it's on BLM land, so that would make it "our public lands," right? #parkchat

A3: Sadly, I haven't driven on an unpaved road at a public land yet. So no memories to brag about, good or bad. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A3 #ParkChat I got to be a passenger on an unpaved road in Los Padres NF with multiple stream crossings. The driver did a great job not getting us stuck!

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A3 - whenever I get to take my kids backcountry camping. They might mumble "are we there yet??" a few times along the way, but their immediate appreciation when we get to our site is unforgettable! #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A3 #ParkChat Driving the “4 wheel drive” only backroads in #JoshuaTree #WhereGalsWander

replying to @Stars252525 @Stars252525 @Wild_Tribute A3) Visiting the petrified forest at Theodore Roosevelt National Park #parkchat

replying to @coasthikergirl @coasthikergirl @Wild_Tribute A3) #Parkchat There's a wicked unpaved/treacherous road on Big Island that leads to a STUNNING secluded black sand beach, no one is there for miles except an occasional local to go fishing, it's covered with ants no matter where you step/sit, they don't bit but do tickle!l

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A3. Driving the sand road through Great Sand Dune NP with my best friend. A whole different experience from driving rocky, bumpy roads. #parkchat

A3. Too many to compare, but I'll mention Capitol Reef National Park's Cathedral Valley because I didn't see anyone during an entire day although that's where the highlights of the park are, rather on than the short paved section (photo from Treasured Lands) #parkchat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A3 - we enjoyed some time on the “highways” in Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge last Summer. No pics on my phone! Great place! #ParkChat
