Unpaved Roads

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @NCascadesNPS @BadlandsNPS @BigCypressNPS A6. The Sage Creek Rd in the Badlands is a good one. I also have good memories of traveling the two-track roads across some our national grasslands, particularly Pawnee NG. I saw more birds and other wildlife. #parkchat

I heard a strange noise try number 19 here https://t.co/BL6xqiRx0s

Q8 #ParkChat In our experience unpaved roads come with their own etiquette including the friendly two finger country wave (much different than the paved road finger wave). What are the points of etiquette that one should follow while traveling unpaved roads?

A6 Organ Pipe, Saguaro and Big Bend all have unpaved roads. There's another one in Organ Pipe that runs right along the border and fence. Kind of interesting. The 21 mile loop road features an arch. #ParkChat

replying to @wander_filled @wander_filled This is a tough issue. More roads tend to equal more people. More people tend to adversely impact the parks. Should there be limits or parameters? Would more roads disperse visitors? For now, this is a rhetorical question, but I appreciate your perspective. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A7. Definitely a healthy balance. I hate to see roads closed, but I don't see a lot of reason for creating ones that don't already exist. Let's just protect, improve and maintain all the many networks of dirt roads we have! There are so many miles of them! #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A7. I like unpaved roads, probably because it means there is less traffic. When the traffic becomes too much for an "unmaintained" road then it has to be paved:-(. That said, too many roads ruin the wild part of of parks and forests. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A8. Always stay on the designated trail and only pull off one car length from the road. Be respectful of others, let them pass. It's easier to reverse downhill, so let the person going downhill pass. Help people that are stuck or need help! Practice #LeaveNoTrace! #ParkChat
