replying to @theRangerLife @theRangerLife @MattsRoadTrip With the fees the airlines are charging for baggage it really isn't that much cheaper to camp vs staying at a motel. #ParkChat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip #parkchat A4 after picking up a #juniorranger book, we talk to the Rangers and make a plan that day. Sometime we will pre-plan exact activities ahead like tours or iconic features. Weather is also an important factor!

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip @Wild_Tribute I try and go to a different Vis Center or “region” of the park each day. See something new. #ParkChat #FindYourPark

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip A5: pour boiling water in the bag...wait ten minutes and enjoy :-) #parkchat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @MattsRoadTrip @RockThePark_ I love Rock the Park 😉 #ParkChat

replying to @Parkasaur @Parkasaur @MattsRoadTrip Also works well to avoid peak crowd times! 😁 #parkchat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip A5: If I leave from home, I have food packed for snacks/meals. If I fly in somewhere, I stop at a store and stock up. I like to have a meal a day out, at a lodge or local favorite. Prefer not to waste money as I go on snacks and overpriced gas station stuff. #ParkChat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip A4) Usually revolves around hiking and exploring away from the frontcountry, like beaches, ruins, glyphs, beachcombing or just wilderness. #ParkChat

replying to @louisbink @louisbink @MattsRoadTrip Does a room with 2 queens work for you? #ParkChat

We cook our own food. We have a great Glamping kitchen setup to keep everything else in the family happy, no roughing it #ParkChat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip A5. I cook nearly all my own meals and buy food from restaurants a couple meals a week. I love cooking for myself and it's cheap but I also love sampling local cuisine! #ParkChat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip For anyone that hates doing dishes #parkchat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip Those are the best, they're rarely crowded since so few visitors can find them on the map. #parkchat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip A5: I bring as much grub with me to limit expenses. Campfire cooked meals for the win! #ParkChat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip A3 I generally stay at nearby hotels/lodges as I tend to visit during the shoulder season and prices are relatively reasonable. #ParkChat

A5 Trail food for breakfast, picnic-type stuff for lunch, fine dining with a local beer for dinner #parkchat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip I love eating at park restaurants when they exist. but more often than not, we go to a local grocery, buy stuff for picnics, and do that. And pack out all our trash, of course. #FindYourPark #ParkChat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip A5 Breakfast at lodge. Bring along nuts, granola bars, apples etc for during the day. Night is usually back at the lodge or somewhere local. Depends on the park and where we are staying. #ParkChat
replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip Matt - loving the cool picture templates for the questions tonight. #parkchat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip A5. Dine at restaurants, cafes in or outside of the park. Scout for breweries in the area too. Also take advantage of free hotel breakfasts, and have snacks in the car. #parkchat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip A5. We cook most of the time, preferring to spend money on local beer and wine instead of restaurant food. A personal favorite: PBJs and a bottle of wine after samples at a winery. #parkchat

replying to @kristarsha @kristarsha @MattsRoadTrip @VacationRaces Cool. I ran inaugural @VacationRaces at Grand Tetons and at Smoky Mtns the next year. Loved em both. Great scenery. Bad knee keeps me from running nowadays. #parkchat

replying to @unconpeace @unconpeace @Stars252525 @YellowstoneNPS That’s our anniversary! If only. #ParkChat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip #parkchat A5 we precook a lot of food then freeze it, that way mom enjoys the camping instead of spending time cooking and cleaning every day! 😉 But we also make use of our Dutch oven a lot! Mmmmm.

replying to @kristarsha @kristarsha @MattsRoadTrip This is my favorite way to hotel too. #ParkChat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip A5) #Parkchat I've become accustomed to cooking over an open fire, weather permitting. I basically snack throughout the day and get 1 big meal either that I cooked (weather permitting) or at a local restaurant. I prefer to cook though.

replying to @coasthikergirl @coasthikergirl @MattsRoadTrip Yes! We do this as well. I tried to find the least visited corner of the park and then go there. #ParkChat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip We are far more spontaneous once we get to a Park. We’ll check local schedules, talk to a few people about things to see and make stops when something grabs us. #ParkChat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip A4: Ditto. Ditto, ditto. You just typed faster than me, Matt😂. #AskARanger #ParkChat

A5. We almost always bring our own food. Trader Joe's is our go-to store for supplies. We did eat in the former Harvey House restaurant at the Grand Canyon as a treat. It was great fun. #ParkChat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip A5. We usually pack food for lunch to maximize time in the park (and save cost) and eat locally for dinner #parkchat

replying to @Parkasaur @Parkasaur @Stars252525 @YellowstoneNPS Well, Canyon Village isn't exactly the most romantic part of @YellowstoneNPS anyway #parkchat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip A5 #parkchat Usually a combination, depending on trip circumstances. I tend to eat fewer meals and just snack more while traveling. During roadtrips, I always tend towards sampling a local craft brewery, but if we're camping in a park, then we're usually cooking at a campground.

replying to @GPJohnston @GPJohnston @MattsRoadTrip Wow, incredible find. Did you have to go far off the beaten path? Olympic? #ParkChat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip A5 #ParkChat We try to cook most of our meals because it’s the least expensive way to travel plus I’m vegetarian and not all corners of the country have restaurants with decent options.

replying to @naturetechfam @naturetechfam @MattsRoadTrip @KOAKampgrounds @GrandTetonNPS There are such good savings #nationalforests campgrounds & they're not all pit toilets either. Senior rates, too. #parkchat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip A4: we try start at the visitors center to get junior ranger books abd talk to ranger. We always first check if there are ranger programs scheduled right when we arrive. Sometimes we have advanced reservations for special activities. Popular hikes. start early. #parkchat
replying to @Parkasaur @Parkasaur @MattsRoadTrip With the lovely Mrs. along - that just inconveniences us instead of them. :) #parkchat
