A6. Yes. Love ranger-guided hikes, love backcountry. Enjoy scenic drives but find congestion frustrating, so tend to do those early or off-season. Love it all! #ParkChat

replying to @rscottjones @rscottjones @MattsRoadTrip Such a great blog post! I’ve told so many people about the tips you talk about...I mean—bring the cooler inside pre-trip! Genius...especially when you live in Texas and your garage/attic is 100+degrees! #ParkChat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip @Wild_Tribute A5. We carry convenient breakfast/lunch items-fruits, veg, summer sausage, drinks. Food is one reason to travel, there is one restaurant meal a day in the evening. Especially true if we are in an area with good regional fare. Pacific NW, seafood. Need I say more? #parkchat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip @Wild_Tribute Love to hike, but not backcountry...just short hikes of 5 miles or less. Scenic drives are fine, if we can stop at overlooks or short trails. An occasional tour like @MammothCaveNP #ParkChat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip A7 #parkchat Yes to all, though we usually only do tours if it's important/required to see the place. There's nothing like backpacking in a national park, but dayhikes are great too, and there's something so...American...about pulling up to scenic overlooks in a national park.

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip A7: we hike as much as possible. But, we make sure we do all the scenic drives a park has to offer. If we are in a park for just one day, we drive most of the time, stop at lookouts, and find a 2-3 mile, quick hike. #ParkChat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip A8. If I'm hiking into the Backcountry, I let a ranger & friend know my plan. I plan with paper maps and sattelite maps. I carry a light bag/pad, map, compass, gps, extra food, water filter, extra battery, first aid, knife and multitool, light and warm layers. #ParkChat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip A6: depends on if we are driving or flying. We always bring some freeze-dried stuff, instant oatmeal packets, tea, snacks. If driving we’ll bring easy stuff to cook. Or shop at a grocery store before entering park. #parkchat
