replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @GallatinNF A6: Pull up a map, look for green. I try to find things regularly anyway, so it's just built in to a daily or weekly routine of searching for something that isn't the local park by the freeway. REI Hiking Project App has been very helpful. #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @GallatinNF A6. The #ParkChat community! And sometimes just surfing google maps leads to new discoveries

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @GallatinNF A6) As with the National Park Service a good rule of thumb is that if its anything other than a "Park" then there's a fair chance that it is a lesser known destination. š #ParkChat

A6: Finding lesser-known destinations is about asking others. Some of the travel guides may touch upon a place worth visiting, but it's better to ask others who have traveled to different places than myself. #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @GallatinNF A6 Paper maps! We find a spot then check it out online to see if we want to visit. #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @GallatinNF A6: All Trails app is a good place for me to look. #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @GallatinNF A6) #Parkchat To find lesser known destinations, I look for big green patches on the map, once I find a place that's close by where I'd like to go, I look up the area online and with a satellite view. Or, I just ask around what's good for hiking/ exploring locally.

A6. We're so lucky here in Washington. We've got so many resources: @WTA_hikers, @MountaineersOrg, Craig Romano, local and regional groups. Everyone's got a secret place to share. #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @GallatinNF #parkchat A6 (your photo is one of our faves!) We have been looking at @NationalForests and planning some winter/spring fun there. @BlackHillsNF is right out our back door and we never seem to utilize it! Always less crowds and interest by the layman for #nationalforests!

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @GallatinNF A6. Well, is there a ballpark or brewery or something I want to check out? I'll look for park site nearby. Most recently, the Lyonsmith Brewery in western NY caught my attention. Watkins Glen State Park had been on the bucket list too, so there you go! #parkchat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @GallatinNF A6. Picked up a lot on twitter and, since Iām an old geezer retiree, I can spend hours online and with my AllStays app and Campendium #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @GallatinNF A6. My strategy may not work for some people, but it is to avoid too much planning (obviously safety should be planned for) and be open to exploring and taking detours! You never know where an unexplored road may take you! Brown signs can often lead to wonderful things! #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @GallatinNF A6: There are certain spots I don't post locations on social media. I want to avoid the magnifying affect. #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @GallatinNF a6 Google maps is my tool of choice #parkchat

A6 #ParkChat Google Maps! At any given moment I have at least 3 tabs of Maps open to various parts of the world

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @GallatinNF A6. I'm a fan of the DeLorme Atlas. I'm a fan of maps, in general. They help me plan, and then help me get off the beaten path during my travels. Also, those brown signs are my click bate, you might say. #parkchat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @GallatinNF A6: Get a map, or recommendations from the locals. #ParkChat
