Public Lands and the Government Shutdown
ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @ChacoCultureNHP A3. Well, my idea of opting outside in winter is skiing and some snowshoeing, so I am ok there. #parkchat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @NatlParkService A2) #parkchat During the #GovernmentShutdown, unfortunately people have shown they can't be reponsible so keep them closed or use the entrance fees to pay the rangers and people to operate the facilities.

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute @publiclandlvr @ChacoCultureNHP @BlackCanyonNPS @GulfIslandsNPS Yep - it's a tough decision, but leaning toward the Colorado and @VisitUtah adventure . . . #ParkChat

replying to @Parkasaur @Parkasaur Does that mean we would just have more staff working without pay then? #ParkChat

replying to @WildWithinHer @WildWithinHer @rscottjones That’s my home state! The wilderness there is spectacular. Have the best time. #parkchat

replying to @ParksandPoints @ParksandPoints @publiclandlvr @NatlParkService @PetroglyphNPS Oh no. Awful. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute @OutdoorAdv360 Considering the way some people treat their own land. that might worry me. :-) #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @Twitter @visitrainier @CAStateParks A4: I'm not sure if @CAStateParks has specifically addressed it, but they are always one of my favorite accounts for non-federal land to follow! #ParkChat

replying to @WildWithinHer @WildWithinHer @ParksandPoints @publiclandlvr @NatlParkService @PetroglyphNPS That's terrible! #ParkChat

replying to @iStefPayne @iStefPayne @rscottjones Yeah, we don't have a shortage of amazing places. Plus, you know, Oregon. #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @ChacoCultureNHP A3) We've been staying local and visiting parks and the beach. A bit of a bummer as we had federal public lands visits planned and we are only out here for a short period of time and may not get to see them. #parkchat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @ChacoCultureNHP A3. I am using State Parks and County Parks while I wait out the Federal shutdown. Luckily, @CAStateParks have some amazing #OptOutside opportunities and continue to be properly maintained and cared for. #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @ChacoCultureNHP A3. Fortunately, Oregon has border to border public beaches, so I've been hitting the sandy shores and sandstone cliffs #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @NatlParkService @PetroglyphNPS A2. I think for the protection of the #publiclands they should be closed, yes, because unsupervised visitors have now proven they can’t be responsible. #ParkChat

replying to @InnerCompass @InnerCompass @ChacoCultureNHP Same. We've been hitting local @CAStateParks and having a great time. #ParkChat

replying to @WildWithinHer @WildWithinHer @publiclandlvr @NatlParkService @PetroglyphNPS Indeed. Unclear as to what was allowed before though. The unit appears to have minimal if close to non-existent management #parkchat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @Twitter @visitrainier @CAStateParks A4 I have seen several tweets about visiting state parks. But like I said, I haven't been on twitter much because I get so stressed out by the open parks and the stories. #ParkChat

replying to @mjn126 @mjn126 @publiclandlvr @ChacoCultureNHP Check with the Park before heading out. I know some mountain bike events will be happening there soon. Not sure exactly when #ParkChat

replying to @NakMakFeegle @NakMakFeegle @publiclandlvr @NatlParkService @PetroglyphNPS Closing all federal public lands is not simple - what about highways through places like @GreatSmokyNPS or @BryceCanyonNPS? What about people who have in-holdings or lease-holdings within the lands? Public lands can't just be put in bubble wrap and sealed off. #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @Twitter @visitrainier @CAStateParks A4) I believe that I've seen tweets from @LatinoOutdoors @leavenotrace & @OutdoorAfro suggesting visiting State & Regional Parks during shutdown which I'm trying to do as well. #ParkChat

replying to @WildWithinHer @WildWithinHer @rscottjones Awesome idea. #ParkChat. How many are there?

A4: Unfortunately, I don't follow enough U.S.-based accounts encouraging people to explore outdoors during the shutdown. I'm sure there are plenty out there. #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @ChacoCultureNHP A3 State Parks...Texas has like 90+ but @PedernalesFalls State Park is practically in my backyard so it’s my go to hiking/outdoor spot for now #ParkChat

A4: I’m more following the fundraising associations that are floating work in the parks. I guess I feel more inclined to support efforts than visit right now. The parks (I hope) will be there for me to return to when order is resolved. #parkchat

replying to @mjn126 @mjn126 @publiclandlvr @Twitter @visitrainier @CAStateParks A4) Well we haven't seen too much so we'll be following this closely . . . #ParkChat

Hi Park Lovers. I’m Deah, and last year I visited 22 National Parks on an epic road trip ! #ParkChat

replying to @RCGibby73 @RCGibby73 @publiclandlvr @ChacoCultureNHP I think it's probably rainy ahead anyway. and trails 'round here just don't stand up to the rain that well. #ParkChat

replying to @Parkasaur @Parkasaur @NakMakFeegle @NatlParkService @PetroglyphNPS @GreatSmokyNPS @BryceCanyonNPS And @PointReyesNPS and @RedwoodNPS and Whiskeytown. It's true that in some cases it's not as simple as simply locking a gate. #ParkChat

replying to @Parkasaur @Parkasaur @NakMakFeegle @publiclandlvr @NatlParkService @PetroglyphNPS @GreatSmokyNPS @BryceCanyonNPS That is exactly what makes a shutdown so difficult. #parkchat

replying to @kristarsha @kristarsha @publiclandlvr @ChacoCultureNHP @PedernalesFalls That's been on my list for ages. This will be my year! Any recommendations or things to know!? #ParkChat

replying to @Stars252525 @Stars252525 @Twitter @visitrainier @CAStateParks I totally understand what you're saying. Glad you're practicing some self care during this time. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @rscottjones About 150. Some are unstaffed, like Harstine Island, where we hiked last weekend accompanied by a seal offshore. Only saw three other people. Of course, it was raining, so. #ParkChat

replying to @louisbink @louisbink @publiclandlvr @NatlParkService @PetroglyphNPS Yup! Park advocates like the @NPCA should be pushing the Trump Administration harder on why essential staff has been furloughed, that should not have been. #ParkChat
