replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @Twitter @visitrainier @CAStateParks A4. I have been proud to follow @publiclandlvr @iStefPayne @59NationalParks @Wild_Tribute @rscottjones @HubbardJeff @beckyjlomax @BarnetteJason @beckworthandco @TravelNevada @CAStateParks and many others for their promotion of outdoor recreation! #Parkchat

@publiclandlvr @ChacoCultureNHP A3 We generally don't do a lot of reservation type activities. But generally do at least one camping trip with other parts of the family who are less back country oriented. On hold at the moment

A1. The #governmentshutdown hasn’t personally affected my plans because I’ve been in India since it began. But I can’t imagine how mad I’d be if I had flown all the way here, paid for a visa, and their parks and sites were closed. I’d be fuming! #ParkChat

Q5: Now is a great time to visit a state or county park. What’s one you’d recommend that’s a day trip from where you live? #ParkChat

A4 I think the #ParkChat community has done an amazing job of promoting alternative ideas for outdoor adventures outside of the federal #publiclands. However, I have not seen promotions from specific federal lands offering alternatives. Interesting. https://t.co/VjDXTbUmIv

Q3: From backcountry permits to campground reservations, some outdoor adventure planning is on hold right now. What are you doing in the meantime to make sure you can still #optoutside this year? #ParkChat
A3: #VamosOutdoors to our state parks! https://t.co/fxy5ABKIl2

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @Twitter @visitrainier @CAStateParks A4) Not really, but we suspect if the shutdown continues into main travel shoulder season in early March or additional shutdowns occur in the summer, we will see those tweets #parkchat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @ChacoCultureNHP @CAStateParks I need to start hitting more of the @CAStateParks! They are just so many and it's hard to choose! #parkchat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @Twitter @visitrainier @CAStateParks Gotta give a nod to the nicely active @NYstateparks #parkchat

A2. Sadly, I think that the parks should be shut down except for a safety-essential patrol to keep vandals out #ParkChat

replying to @WildWithinHer @WildWithinHer @rscottjones 🐻 California would be another fine choice for state parks, e.g., Humboldt Redwoods State Park could very well be a top-rated national park, with its densest biomass in world, incredible scenery & 10% remaining virgin coastal redwoods. #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr Great question - but the current system is very simple. Employees "essential to protect public safety and property" should not be furloughed. The rules are already in place - they just need to be followed. #ParkChat

A4—you all see? The #shutdown is all wrong for the national parks. This conversation shouldn’t even be happening! #parkchat

replying to @Parkasaur @Parkasaur @NakMakFeegle @publiclandlvr @NatlParkService @PetroglyphNPS @GreatSmokyNPS @BryceCanyonNPS They could be closed in the exact same fashion that they have been for nearly every other shutdown prior to this year. Is it perfect? No. But it's a lot better than what's happening now. #ParkChat

replying to @PalmTreeMusings @PalmTreeMusings Which makes me think - if our National Parks had tigers that could maul visitors to death, I bet they would closed down like they should be #parkchat

replying to @Parkasaur @publiclandlvr Its worth noting that other lobbyists know how to play this game. I'm really disappointed that more Park Advocates aren't also asking "could you make these guys essential." #ParkChat https://t.co/gUuUjbEwpz

replying to @unconpeace @unconpeace @PalmTreeMusings We've had lots of visitor deaths due to wildlife encounters in NPs that don't involve tigers. Hmmmmm. #ParkChat

A5. Well, since I was just there, I vote for Harstine Island @WAStatePks. Beautiful forest -- even some old-growth! -- and saltwater shoreline. #ParkChat

replying to @Parkasaur @Parkasaur @publiclandlvr @NatlParkService @PetroglyphNPS @GreatSmokyNPS @BryceCanyonNPS Highways that run through public lands were kept open in the last shutdown as I recall - what matters is closing what can be closed. #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @ShastaStatePark @CAStateParks A5) Particularly around the corner from me is Mt Diablo State Park with many hiking trails & campgrounds along with one of the best vista views in the World. I believe that if it wasn't in California it would be part of the National Park Service. #ParkChat

replying to @DonNadeau @DonNadeau @WildWithinHer @rscottjones Every state has parks worth of visiting. Some are just better known than others. #ParkChat

A2 #ParkChat Tough question. I think people need to be better. I don't think we should need rangers patrolling to keep people from doing the wrong things. But if we look at Hobbes writings in Leviathan, the nature of humanity is to be awful. So maybe they do need to be closed
